Titan is now available for the Pearl Expert

Postby JB Toby » 21 Jan 2009, 17:09

Titan is now available for the Pearl Expert the upgrade giving many software features including attribute fades and delays, fixture overlap mode, playbacks on preset faders and fixture exchange and copy making it easy to change fixture type or add more fixtures into an existing show. One expert owner recently wrote “I would say that its fantastic!” and “I am happy I spent the extra cash on the expert”.

The upgrade involves adding hardware and installing software, it addresses several potential issues we have identified over the last two years, and involves some minor soldering to improve DMX immunity when long DMX cables are used, adding more processor memory, and the installation of a mechanical cage over the motherboard which secures all the cables and socketed components (such as the memory) which can become loose in over a period of time.

We want to ensure every console is properly upgraded and to do this we have set up a trained team at Avolites to answer any questions and to carry out upgrades here.

Ideally all upgrades would be carried out here or by our trained Distributors, although we realize this might not always be possible so we have also written a very detailed manual and created a kit of parts to allow field upgrades by competent persons.

We have made the upgrade non chargeable, and we make no charge to fit it here so there is no reason not to upgrade and lots of reasons to especially because it allows you to run Titan or Classic Pearl software making the console doubly powerful and useful.

To arrange an upgrade if you are in the UK you can contact Lee on our usual contact numbers (020 8965 8522, service@avolites.com) or if you purchased outside of the UK you should contact the Distributor you purchased the console from in the first instance, if that is a problem you should contact us in London. When you contact either ourselves or the Distributor you purchased the console from you will be asked for the serial number of your console.

In most cases we should be able to upgrade the console at Avolites in just 1 day.

Titan is a major upgrade for the Pearl Expert and we are already working on the next Titan releases to be delivered later this year.

On a side note Lindsey is now running Titan training courses, either for new users or for cross training from Pearl classic software and please contact Lindsey for availability and booking and it should be possible to upgrade your console on the same day as you are trained!

Finally and as always please contact myself or your usual contact at Avolites if you have any additional questions.

yeah, it`s out now.

I´m not a Pearl Expert Owner, just a user and programmer.
what about the titan matrix and titan remote?
is it possible to download this software, so that users can preprogram at home and remote control the rig ?

After I messed up about this before, I'll quote Olie about the remote:

No extra software is required, it simply uses the built in iPod browser. All Titan desks come ready for the remote, all you have to do is setup a wireless access point and browse to the consoles IP address in the iPod web browser.

Matrix is not available yet but there is a virtual panel (as previously on D4 and similar to Pearl Simulator) which you can offline edit.

You cannot download since it requires hardware. I suggest you contact Avo and discuss options for non-owners.

This has not been released yet in a form that you can install on your own PC. At the moment it only works on the consoles and is included to allow you to control the software with ShowSafe. I do not have any information on when it might be released.

Is it possible to switch from titan to classic pearl, but without losing what you`ve programmed (except the things done what the classic pearl can`t do)?

This is not possible. The hardware is completely different.

Today we`ve got our pearl back, with the titan. They said that we have a sort of beta version of the software. Is that software safe enough to do a show with 50+ moving lights, 60+ conventional lights, 30+ other intelligent lights? Before we had a lot of problems with the pearl expert in combination with subwoofers on hardcore party`s. The distributor said that with Titan the console can handle it now. But is the software safe enough to do a show with those lights?

As I understand, extreme vibration at certain frequencies can cause problems with the hard drives. Maybe Titan HD usage helps, but I'm not aware there is a solution for this yet.

Regarding software, what is exact version? It will be shown on the Panel Server window.

Yes, There is vibration from the frequencies, but therefor we have squashballs under the desk :P It sounds strange, but it helps. When there is loud music, the desk stops with sending the dmx.

I don`t have the console right here, but i will check it asap. I thought it was something like 1.0.0.......
