Dimmer + pan saw shape

Postby pottsworth » 26 Apr 2008, 16:29

Does anyone know of any custom shapes that combine both dinner (or shutter) and tilt, so you can get the effect of having a number of beams in a row alternatly sweeping down, then turning off, tilting upward, comming back on and sweeping down again.
Would it just be a case of combining the tilt saw and shutter dimmer spread shapes to give something like

Code: Select all

SHAPE "Tilt Dim" "SAW"
6  80   64   0   0   0   0  0
8  255   64   0   0  0   0   0
SEND

I have tried to do it as a chase before using position focuses and dimmer channel (although I was just thinking it may be easier using shutter), and it has never really worked.

Also, if such a shape exists, how do you add it to the pearl?
Is it just a case of pasting it on the bottom of the shape file then going to load shape file in service?

Cool, thanks for that
is there any chance you could email me the SG.dat file you mentioned in that one?
Also, does a shape file reference a pattern file?
Ie if you have SG.dat with the shape and the pattern in, do you just need to select you fixtures and go shape generator - <name of shape> or do you have to in some way run the pattern, or run anything else?

I found copy of original mail & sent you that.

Within the shapefile Shape definitions reference Patterns. The shape definitions are what you select in the console. The patterns are the actual modifier to the attribute values +/- 127 in hex. Only one pattern can be used for any given shape but can be applied to multiple attributes (with offsets etc.)

You ever thought of actually writing a chase? Or has this part of programing been phased out? Just wondering

You misunderstand the problem. As OP originally said chase had been tried, but it is near impossible to create a cascading effect in this way.

Mmmh. I seem to remember creating the same effect using a cyberlight chiclet controller. Times change, all is good :)

As for the original shape file; I'm not using it any more. For some reason the console was getting ill after playing with that file, sometimes it wouldn't playback shapes any more or the shapes would be all wrong. After reloading the default shape file from a regular fixture disk these problems disappeared.

Though I'm not saying that has anything to do with the rain shape! I wrote some custom shapes myself (a prism saw for instance) and added those to that file, they could have been the problem as well. I would like to suggest some extensive testing if you're planning on using it for your live shows :)
