Simulator and Visualiser for Dummies

Is there anyone with some patients who can give me a hand with the Simulator and Visualiser both installed but I don't understand how to connect

I need a step by step start. I have to learn the pearl over the holidays and without lights the Simulator and Visualiser is the best way.

In Vis you should simply have to select the 'simulator' radio button on the left when in 'run' mode.
