Hi Raul, the new version you've sent me works like a Charm, Thanks.

one thing:
If a fixture uses 16 adresses, it does NOT mean that the DMX addres should be DIVBY 16. You can addres it anywhere. That feature is only for (in example) cyberlights. You can't give those a DMX-addres, but only a fixtureID, so the fixture calculates it's own addres with FixtureID*20+1 or FixtureID*15+1 (using 15 or 20 channels in reduced or extended mode)

New version

Postby Raúl » 20 Feb 2007, 23:42

Hi everybody,

A new version is released (0.9):

download it at www.albadalejo.com/raul/software/R20PB.zip

This version includes a lot of bugfixes, and a new system to create palletes (color picker and P/T mouse positioning).

This new version is also ready for 2 new features that will drastically reduce the setting up time, "quick setup" for setup channels and "default values" for DMX channel behaviour values. But both new features will be activated in new version, soon.

Is possible that the "Check for updates" button does not work properly, if so, download it manually, this bug is also corrected in new version.

Best regards,
Raúl Gómez

Hi again,

Just tell you that, a new version is available for the R20 fixture library builder (0.9 build70).

This new build include a new function for fast and easy channel setup, and a lot of bugfixes as well.

For all the people who asked, the autoupdate feature should work perfect now.

You can update your version clicking on the "Check for updates" application button, or this link for new users: http://www.albadalejo.com/raul/software/R20PB.zip

Enjoy.
Best regards!

Editing R20 Files

Postby KenC » 27 Jul 2007, 09:57

Hi Raul,

Have tried it and I must say its a very useful software especially for asia with all the new fixtures and different manufacturers coming up.
However, I would like to know when the edit R20 file function will be available as I would love to create custom palettes for exsisting fixtures.

Once again thanks for this wonderful software

Hi KenC,

The edit r20 files feature will be the next feature released, right now, I've some alpha versions working with this feature.

The problem is that right now I've not so time to dedicate to it, and ###REMOVED###, that's the main reason because I'm not working so hard on it as well.

###REMOVED###

Thanks for your kind words.

When asking for a donation for software you are providing that software free of charge and it is at the users discretion whether he provides a donation. Any updates should be provided free of charge and not as a result of the amount of donations you receive. By offering services in response for a donation, you are technically selling, which is prohibited on this forum.

If you continue to post in this way it may result in your posts being deleted.

I am sure we all appreciate the work you have done with the personality builder and please continue this good work!

Hi Olie,

Thanks for your kind words.

Tecnically the updates are not the result of the total amout of donations I receive, because at the moment, I've released about 50 versions (current is v72) for free, and I'll continue doing it, ###REMOVED###.

###REMOVED###, and always I work harder on projects that people are more interested in, that's all.

Without dubt, new free versions of the soft will follow, and the demanded features will be implemented ###REMOVED###.

Thank you.

That is effectively saying the same thing. I strongly suggest you edit and remove all references to donations.

I understand what he means.

There are many things to do all day long and everyone needs something to eat, drink, to pay the rent for his/her home and so on.

No one works on projects, that do not bring in a little money.

People want things implemented by Raul and they kind of want it "Right Here - Right Now"
For me this sometimes sounds like "Quite OK what ya did - but work on it it has to meet MY demands!"

I suppose there are many Users of the R20-Personality Builder out there and if no one really says "thank you" to Raul the fun gets lost, because no one honours what he does.

RAUL i say thanks and I will donate a little. I think this has something to do with respect towards the programmer.
See it as "donationware" :D

I understand that and I have no problem with Raul asking for donations and I also understand that he must prioritize things but this forum is an Avolites forum designed for users of our equipment to find help. I can not permit it being used by members to raise money. By all means ask for donations and express your frustration of the lack of donations on your own website but not here please!

It is only because of my sympathy to the project that I have not already deleted the postings.

I'm very disappointed in this at the moment. I have great respect for people doing things for free in their own time and it is wonderful this still happens in an time that otherwise seems obsessed with money and material things.

But to ask for donations towards software like this is totally unnacceptable IMO. There should be no confusion - this makes it commercial no matter how you word it or try and convince yourself otherwise.

I have been involved in and helped support many free developments and I have never seen anyone ask for donations. Occasionally there will be target funds setup when hardware is necessary (ie. servers), but definitely not to pay for someones time.

In fact this particular example is quite dangerous. In a commercial situation you are effectively contracted to provide services. In a free development there are no obligations. But here it is ambiguous. Does the person who donates then have expectations or rights? Do the donators then pay for others to get the software for free? This is why it must be clear.

Have a donations link on a homepage by all means but never, ever ask for money and especially not suggesting it can speed up development. Think very carefully about this.

Anyway....

There's a new version out.

New version is the first release version fully working and (almost in my tests) completely stable. No more betas!

New version contains multiple add-ons like:
- Choose color by Filter (while creating/editing autoPalettes)
- You can now create your own MACROs for your fixtures
- Fixed bugs in R20 generation procedure
- Updated Shape Generator file (for RGB fixtures)
- Fixes in AutoUpdate process
- Many minor bugfixes

Right now, you can choose between "Lee Filters" and "Rosco Filtes", if you want more manufacturers, just tell me.

I hope you'll enjoy this new version 'cos it has a lot of demanded features and reported bugs.

I'm looking into translate the soft in other languages, if you're interested in translate this app in your own language, please contact me.

Regarding the opening R20 files for editting, at the moment is not included in this version, because I'm still testing this feature... I want to be sure it works okay. I hope it will be out soon.

As always, feedbacks are more than welcomed!

Best regards to all!

Hi gnamusic,

Thanks for your opinion. Make no mistake, I'm not obsessed for incomes, that's only the value I take to measure the users interest of, nothing else.

About the website, it's not my website, it's the company I work for website. Then understand that I cannot put (and I don't want to put) any pay per click or ads on it, and it's not my work to finish the web (anyway we are working on it and I hope it will be up soon). I just use the web to host my files, that's all.

Thanks for your suggestion.
