I am looking at combined lighting rig + LED pixel mapping project and need some guidance on max universe numbers.
In the tech spec for titan mobile it says the max number of universes is 16 (https://www.avolites.com/products/light ... ile#Vtab16).
In the manual for both v9.0 and v10 (p23) it says 12 universes.
So first question is which is right !
Second question is whether anyone has run up to 16 universes split over direct dmx and art-net off a titan mobile. (I'll need 2-3 universes to control the lighting rig and I was probably going to hardware those on direct DMX outputs, then send the other universes via art-net to the LED system). I realise this is very dependent on pc spec.
The PC spec I have was (I believe) the recommended spec last year - 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-4590S Processor (Quad Core, 6MB, 3.00GHz w/HD4600 Graphics) + 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3L Memory and is running Windows 7. Is this similar to e.g.the Quartz processor ?
I'm currently still running v9.0.
Any thoughts ? Any gotchas with still running v9.0 or is this the point I really should upgrade !
We have other options using an entirely separate control plane (PixelPusher+LEDLabs application or perhaps Resolume) but it would be great to integrate the LED displays with the lighting rig for at least some parts of the shows.
Thanks
John.
Titan Mobile - 12 or 16 Universes ?

I'm not sure why the information isn't consistent but there's nothing stopping you running 16 lines - you can add them via the TitanNet tab in DMX Settings. However, as you say how well this works will be largely dependent on the machine specs and the show content and I suspect it might struggle without distributing the processing load with a TNP.

Re: Titan Mobile - 12 or 16 Universes ?
This was brought up the other day in one of the facebook groups ....
it's a mistake in the manual The console can do a total of 16 lines of output without the addition of a TitanNet Processor. ( this was confirmed by JB)
The manual should be updated on the next software release.

But like Nic said ...
I would not use a computer under the recommended specs of Titan PC Suite.
i7 2GHz
8GB RAM
Video card wth a Passmark score of 700 or better
SSD Drive
Windows 10

Great - thanks for the quick replies.
If the pixel counts look like they might be in the right ball park it's probably worth pushing to ensure we could try and experiment with this.
It's actually a lot of LED tape on stage sets/decor rather than a screen so could be interesting to integrate some or all of it.

Re: Titan Mobile - 12 or 16 Universes ?
Some real life data from some customers:
(1) one company uses a Quartz with miles of LED tape: 16 universes are just packed. All that stuff is only RGB, and most of this is just pixel mapped. Now go and run an effect or some pixelmap graphics on this: amazingly it runs. But toggling something in the user interface, or fading between two playbacks, or adding some more effects, makes the thing stutter - what, clearly, is fully understandable.
(2) another company has an entirely different setup: they have some special DMX controlled winches, each holding some spheres which are RGB. In their setup, there are something like 100 channels used per universe. No problem to run >50 universes from a Titan Mobile on a 4 years old average notebook - again, not amazingly at all: per universe, there are something like 60 RGB channels, some P/T channels - and it's unlikely to run any effect on all channels at the same time. Most likely we could run >100 universes in such a setup.
I'd say Avolites' official number of '16 universes' is a rather good estimation. But your project sounds like a great number of mapped pixels, which is likely to push the limits, dependig from what you plan to do.

Thanks icke, really useful and interesting input.
My guess is our plan A will be to use a separate control system for all the led tape/decor (most likely judging by current discussions will be Resolume) but it sounds like it's worth experimenting with Titan. We can do the network design so it's easy to switch between the two.
