Need Help with chase fade times (Pearl)

Postby ChiekuRs » 09 Apr 2006, 13:22

Hello!
I have problems with such a simle thing as chase timing.
I have a row of blinders and all I want to do is to make a chase that turns on one blinder without fade time, then starts to fade down it slowly (4 sec fade time) and after 1 second (1 second from the moment i started fade) turns on next bilnder and agan starts fading it out, and so on (this is something smilar what KnigtRider had in his front bumper if you understan what I'm talking about).
But I can't get this to work - fade time is being ignored and set to step time (1 sec).
Can anybody please expain me the trick?

You can't have a fade-time longer than the step-time.
The pearl needs to finish the fade for the first step completely, before it can start the next step.
Perhaps you could write a shape to do what you want, (or maybe it's already there)

good luck

Indeed. This is very difficult to achieve. You would have to record the probable intensity of fixture one at the point that fixture two begins etc. Additionally you would require a third step to allow a 'snap', without the previous fixture changing intensity (using complex timing). This is a nightmare and is similar to the way we used to have to program movement, notably if you wanted a 'wave' tilt effect (for those that can remember those glorious days!) This introduces a second problem - maximum chase speed. The more steps you require, the slower you make the overall chase speed. If many HTP channels are patched on the desk then this could become unusable.

Shapes are the key. Utilising one containing a 'saw' type pattern and getting the phase offset right should do the job. The big disadvantage is inability to change speed without changing intensity.
