Did you enter the serial number printed on the rear panel of the console when you ran the recovery?

I would like to think I did but their is a chance I put in what I though was the serial and was wrong. Would it of excepted the wrong serial during recovery?

Yes. It doesn't know at that stage so you could enter anything but this will be a problem during validation. While it might seem like a pain I would just run recovery again. Assuming you didn't delete it you have done the hard part in creating a bootable stick and if you did any firmware updates these will remain. Maybe 30 mins to do 9.0 recovery and 9.1 installer?
