key frame question

Hi guys..
I had trouble yesterday blending a key frame shape with a "shapegenerator" shape.
The first one was tilt plus color change shape, and the second a fade to fader pan saw...
Is this normal?

What is the problem?

I tried creating one keyframe shape playback containing tilt and colour keyframes and another playback containing a pan saw shape set to mode 2. Firing both together works as expected with the pan shape playback fader controlling its size.
