Strange flickering

Postby Evelyne » 21 Jun 2014, 12:09

This may not have something to do with the console, but it may do. So I am going to try this on here. It's a real mystery!

This is in on our small stage, there we have a Titan Mobile (V6.1) and a few LED's (line A) and some frontlight (line B).

Everything worked perfectly fine, and then something "with the power" happened. I wasn't there, and the one who was there doesn't really know what he's doing. So I am not sure what exactly happened. But now, when I turn on the fronts, the LED's start to flicker! Which is weird because it's a different universe. The higher I open the dimmer on the fronts, the more the LED's flicker.

LED's do respond ok to all DMX attributes (which makes me think it's not a cable issue) when front is out though a few of them flicker very lightly.

I put the front on Line C, repatched it, same issue.
Also when I open the dimmer in programmer, same issue, so it's not programmed in somewhere.

Could it be the TM, or did the LED's got fried and are now confused?

Hard to say without being there and knowing all the details but gut feeling is the fixtures are damaged.

Try taking one problem fixture out of the rig and do some tests:

- Does it do it in any 'stand-alone' modes? If so, definitely fixture.
- If not does it still do it connected directly to console with different cable and powered from a different supply? If not then issue is either signal or power in rig.
- If it does then try connecting another console. If ok then possibly issue with TM outputs. If not ok then definitely fixture (DMX side only).
- If not then place back in rig with original power but run a single new DMX line direct to the fixture without anything else in the chain. If problem occurs then must be power issue. If not then signal.

As an aside you should update TM. 6.1 is old now. Getting close to 8.

Thank you, I will do all that!

I know it should be updated, I hardly ever work there and I seem to be the only one that knows a slight bit of these things. Just troubleshooting isn't my strongest talent yet :P
