Hi,

there are sooooo many differences that it's hard to answer your question in a brief. In particular, the way how important you deem those differences depends from your way of programming. I will try some of the most important ones:
- in general, Titan is the plattform, hardware and software, which is being actively developed, whilst the Classic hard-/software hasn't changed in years, and will come to an end of life sooner or later (this is just my humble opinion, not an official Avo announcement)
- some of the major Titan advantages:
-- with Titan, you can program cuelists in many ways, which is just not possible on Classic
-- basically unlimited number of fixtures, regardless of HTP/LTP; much more DMX universes available
-- neat way to operate multi-channel fixtures (e.g. multicell fixtures, media servers etc.)
-- triggering via MIDI, DMX-In, MIDI-Timecode
-- soon: nice remote, group masters, network backup
-- not so soon: full-fledged networking
-- and manymanymanymany more

However, here are some reasons why some people still prefer Classic, given they feel comfortable with the limited feature-set:
- sound-to-light, which will probabkly never be possible with Titan
- the consoles boot up in seconds (Titan: in minutes), and usually even power loss doesn't hurt (with Titan, this can cause trouble - a UPS is strongly recommended)
- very simply put: the number of faders. E.g. if your standard setup usually includes lots of PAR cans and just some movers, even I might go for a Classic desk every now and the (good old R'n'R times)

Some things to add (in no particular order):

- The console hardware is much, much faster. Even more so with the latest consoles which all have i5 processors. This means buttons actions effectively respond instantly, both in operation and for navigating menus when programming etc.
- Similarly, storage is fast, either on internal hard drive (solid state in all consoles shipping now) or on Usb sticks. While the Pearl 2010 supports Usb it is nowhere near as fast.
- Showfile compatibility between all Titan consoles. Free offline editing with Titan 1 or console simulators.
- Complete personality libraries available on console and easily updated in one quick download/install (via Usb stick). Patch fixture search. No more paging through endless manufacturers and fixtures (or at least having to remember a page number!)
- Fixture copy and exchange. Copy can be used if more fixtures are added to a rig where copying the fixture will duplicate data in all cues (this can then be edited if required). Exchange when moving between venues with different fixtures. For example quickly swap all your Mac spots to Robe's.
- Integrated Visualiser with optional automatic patching of show fixtures. Blind mode outputs to the built-in Vis and, optionally, to external visualisers over Art-Net. Avo Vis theatres are embedded in showfiles.
- Virtual dimmer for all those LED fixtures that don't have one.
- On-screen playback legends. On the touch consoles this includes the ability to draw/import pictures.
- Easily copy/move/delete singe and multiple items including palettes. In Classic you cannot move palettes and playbacks could only be deleted or moved one at a time.
- View and edit cue contents on screen.
- Shape palettes.
- Speed masters (for example to synchronise selective chases or to control shape speed)
- Key profiles which allow you to define what a button does when you press it. For example you could set the blue button above a chase playback to be a tap tempo instead of swop.
- Connect to and adjust chase speeds without having to make them active. This includes the ability to tap a chase tempo in advance of firing it.
- Complex cue timing.
- Playback release. One example is to have a strobe playback set to release intensity. Hold flash button and fixtures strobe, let go and they can go back to an open shutter automatically (no more need for mode 2). Another example could be one that releases colour. Firing playback = while, kill playback = return to previous colour.

There's no reason to completely rule-out sound-to-light although it is probably fair to say it is very low priority.
Regarding boot time this was defintely a concern when I started working with the Expert but in the seven years or so since it has never actually been a problem. So I wouldn't worry about this too much. And all the consoles now ship with a UPS built-in.
In terms of faders if you compare to an Azure then the Tiger Touch actually has more. If you are comparing a Pearl then the Expert is probably a more suitable equivalent where you get 80 playback faders per page. And you can always add MIDI devices to increase physical controls if you like.

I have had to go back to Classic consoles a few times when working abroad and I found it difficult. If you have the chance to upgrade then you won't look back. I say that as an LD.

It's easy to learn and was always designed to operate in a very similar way to the older consoles. If you have a PC you can download Titan One or Titan Simulator for free and try it.
