Mixed fixture cell lay-out in pixel mapper

Postby sdhartog » 03 Nov 2011, 09:14

First I added a couple of CLS Atmospehere fixtures in my Tiger Touch. After grouping all panels, I edit the group lay-out in the pixel mapper.
The first panel with control (type = Segments+Control, 13 DMX) is shown as a bar of cells and the other panels (type = Segments, 12 DMX) as square.
The panel lay-out of the first panel (with the control) is incorrect, so I opened the CLS Amosphere Personality editor to change the cell lay-out. After changing the lay-out, I saved the Atmosphere Personality and updated the fixture personality.

After re-opening the pixel mapper lay-out editor, I see the first Atmosphere panel with the old (bar) and on top the new (square) cel lay-out with new numbering.
I tried to fix this with reloading the personality, regrouping the fixtures, re-opening the pixel mapper lay-out editor.

How to fix this?

Hi, can you show me what the Segments+Control cell layout should be? Maybe a link to the product page, or a screen shot from your computer of the Cell layout, or does it simply need to match the Segments cell layout?

From having a look on the CLS website it appears both modes need to follow the square layout.

yes, bot modes should have the square layout. The mode "Segments, 12 DMX" is having the correct lay-out.

The first panel in the string of panels should have the mode with the control and the others without the control.
But the cell-layout of the mode "Segments+Control, 13 DMX" should be configured as square.

I can fix the cell lay-out of the "Segments+Control, 13 DMX" mode within the Tiger Touch (with help of the Personality editor) but afterwards the cell lay-out is showed wrong in the pixel mapper lay-out editor.

Have you pressed [Patch] then [Update Personality] to apply the changes to your showfile?

I must apologise. I have no idea why I only updated the layout for one mode and not the other.

Try restarting software.

I've made the updates to the file, it'll be part of the download library tomorrow morning.

Tried to solve the problem, but was not working:
- restart the software
- reload the Personality (Patch --> Update Personality)
- re-group the fixtures in a new group and open the pixel mapper on the new group

But can anyone reproduce this problem? Because I like to change the cell lay-out of a fixture within Tiger Touch...

I understand the problem.

Is it vital you can update the personality in an existing file? If you have a saved show prior to patching the the incorrect version (or if you are simply starting from scratch) this is the easiest solution.

If this is not possible I will investigate other options.

It is non blocking issue for now. But each time starting a show from scratch when there is a Personality problem is not an option. (just started a new show because the pixel mapper was not working on old shows...)

We have a standard show to serve most of our performances. Most of the shows we are using the same set of fixtures (more than 50 fixtures of more than 20 different types), large collection of palets and playbacks for busking purposes.

If you are re-using the show, than it is vital that you can update the personality in an existing file. Or...are there other solutions?

Yes, of course.

I have investigated the problem further. This is specific to changing cell layout. Following [update personality] the original layout persists with the new layout appearing as a ghost. I will enter this as a bug.

The purpose of [update personality] is to permit changes without affecting programming and for the most part this works as designed. There is also potentially the alternative option of using exchange fixture which, along with specific mapping, could take care of more complex updates where the standard function doesn't give the desired results, particularly with multi-cell changes.

Exchange fixture could work for me. I will test this.

Thanks for your feedback and further investigations! :-)

And...pixel mapping is great! Less programming, great results :P
