Titan Mobile Unresponsive

Postby wizzman » 24 Oct 2012, 11:33

I am currently in a run of shows using the Titan mobile. I have been using it without any issues over the last 2 evenings however when i went to start up the mobile today the desk was totally unresponsive. The software booted up fine but there were no lights on the mobile whatsoever and the faders/ buttons did nothing. I restarted a few times to no avail. I could see the desk LED's light up if I reinserted the USB cables but this did not solve the problem once the software was loaded. I eventually got round the problem by uninstalling and re-installing the v.6 software. Does anyone know the reason why this occurred?

Hi, I have had the same problem on 2-3 times. I have restarted the PC and still nothing.
I have like you reinstalled V6 and all seems OK.
I have reported the problem to Avo and sent in logs.
I also cannot put the pannel in boot mode when using USB expert but only in Win XP.

Both might be a driver issue.
- you sure used the same USB port on your computer?
- did you use one or two USB cables?

I am pretty sure this can be solved without reinstalling. You'd need to check which hardware windows has detected, and whether USB Expert sees the hardware (which again would be a driver issue).

Yes this was the case, the set-up had not changed from the previous evening when everything worked perfectly.
- did you use one or two USB cables?
used 2, again nothing was different from the evening before.

will check this if i have future occurrences, however i do recall when i had a similar issue last month with the mobile i couldn't see the mobile in USB Expert, similar to the problem SLS explained.

If it is a driver issue how do I resolve it without reinstalling? I use a Dell Vostro with windows 7 (32 bit) to control the Mobile.

Regarding the driver issue I mentioned:

In the USB Expert Console's Tools Menu, you see an item 'Repair USB Drivers'. I'd recommend to give this a try next time you're facing problems. This will make sure your system has the required drivers in the right places.

I might be wrong, and I am not the Avo software guy - this is something I learned in my previous job. Windows tends to administer USB drivers depending on (1) the USB ID the device propagates, and (2) the very USB port. E.g. even if you run the very same Mobile, with the same 2 cables and the same computer, there is a 50% chance you just swopped the ports - which leads to Windows asking for the correct drivers again (not every time - this will happen the first time a particular USB device is connected to a particular port). And if for whatever reason you don't see this Windows message (there are numerous reasons this might happen), then drivers are not correct -> USB expert doesn't work -> the Mobile doesn't work. To make Windows ask for the drivers again might be a hard job - hence, the above mentioned option in USB Expert is a very good and easy way to make sure all drivers ar okay.

OK thanks for the info, I agree with every thing you have said.
I have had the same problem as wizzman a few times in the past with ver6 but it never seems to be consistant. I did find however that a power down of the PC/laptop so the panel reset and PC loaded again normaly fixed it.
Next time it happens run the log collecter and send them Avo, they will be able to tell whats going on from them, otherwise we realy are just guessing.

I my case its a differant problem, I can see the the panels in the USB expert and they are shown in the PC hardware list but as soon as you try to put them in boot mode the panel crashes and loads of errors. This only applys to win XP, win 7 is fine.
I have talked too the guys at Avo and it may be a hardware problem.
by the way You only need one usb lead connect (top) since V5 if you have done the firmware updates.

Windows 7 has a USB port disable function called "USB selective suspend" in the advanced power management section.
This is enabled in Windows 7 by default.
If the Titan mobile is inactive for an extended period of time, the USB port on the PC may go into suspend mode and drop the USB connection to the Titan Mobile.
To disable this function:
Go to Windows Control Panel > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings > Advanced Settings
In Advanced Settings scroll down to USB Settings and expand. Click on the enabled setting and change to disabled.
