Guidance regarding which console to buy

Postby nishrigo » 15 Jun 2012, 09:55

I work with a contemporary dance company in Bangalore (India) and we are looking for a new Lighting Console. So on behalf of the company I am researching different consoles, their cost-effectiveness and functionality.

Our company also does equipment rentals and hence the equipment tours a lot - the console could end up being used about 2-3 times a week in different venues. So keeping this in mind, I spoke to some designers here in India and they suggested either the Tiger Touch or the Pearl Expert. Could anybody please guide me on which of these consoles would be ideal for us?

I would really appreciate a candid reply - which includes the pros and the cons of both these consoles.

I would say it will mostly depend on budget and size/weight.

The Expert has many more faders and buttons making it particularly good for busking and for shows where you need a lot of playbacks. But it is more expensive than the Tiger Touch, requires a separate wing or external display and is heavier/larger.

The Tiger Touch has fewer faders and buttons but has a touch screen built-in and is much lighter.

Otherwise the software and capabilities are the same. Both are popular for touring and hire although you could argue that the Expert is slightly more familiar to people because it is so similar to the old Pearl consoles.
