Expert Titan Q-spot wackyness
I had a guest LD at my venue and when he tried to plug his Titan expert touch wing console in to my Q-spot 300s they would not communicate with his board. We checked the addresses, profile, speed, and anything we could think of. I finally took my board and plugged it it and got control. (Pearl 2004)I have a expert down in my lounge with the titan software in it. (3.1) I took one of my q-spot 300 and patched it first to the classic software (worked), then to to titan software (no control). I patched them at the same address and on the same dmx line. Can't figure out what is the problem. Any help??
Hi,
That seems to suggest it might be a personality problem although I can't see anything obvious.
In order to rule out DMX compatibility try patching a few dimmers and see if you get control, specifically the first few should give you pan and tilt in any mode and will be easy to see.
If that works then try playing more with the personalities and see if you can figure out what is or isn't correct. If you can be clear about which mode that would help.
If the dimmers don't give control then it could be a DMX timing issue (assuming address/line mapping etc. are all correct). I have read of such issues with other Chauvet products before. In Titan 3.1/+ the DMX timing settings are accessed via the Titan window (Tools/Switch Application/Titan) - go to Tools/DMX Setup/Settings/Expert DMX.

Hi I patched the light as a dimmer and have all the channels for the light. They match up with the channels for the profile. I have updated the fixture library every time I up date the board. (Current 4.0) I now have the light slowly going to 50% pan, 50% tilt but I still don't have any control. When I shut off the board and restart it I get the light going through what looks like the macros for the light. I have tried to see if I can see a problem in the profile, in the personality builder but everything looks fine. I mistakenly thought it might be that the end dmx value was way to high, and changed it to 255. then when I looked as other profiles I saw it was right and restored to the original. I will see if it is the timing next, but you guys suggested to patch as a dimmer and if it fails it could be timing, but I will see if I can make it happen.
Thanks,

Ok guys, I have tried every thing I can think of to get the Chauvet Q-spot 300 to work with the Titan Expert. I have patched to DMX 1, using the 15 channel personality, set the light to the 15 channel mode (advanced), and set the address to DMX 1 and get no control over the light. I tried doing this with all the personalty channels (15, 13, 12,) and setting the light to the corresponding mode. I even tried to use the different channel personality with a different mode. The only one that I could remotely control was when i had either the 15 channel or the 12 channel patched in to the board and had the mode set to V.2006 (13). Even then I could only control the pan and tilt and the gobo channel controlled the color wheel. I patched it as 15 individual channels and got the corresponding attribute for each channel. I looked at the personality and all the channels line up for each one of the modes. I did try to mess with the timing in the board but I don't know what to pay attention to to see if it is changing anything in the board.
Please help I would love to have the board in Titian mode for our concerts.
Maybe my boss will listen to me and stop renting Hogs when someone asks for a better board.
Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is the power on (and locate) value for the speed attribute is wrong. If this affects a large number of attributes and is at the slowest setting then it is possible the attributes are being controlled but changing so slowly you think they aren't working. I've been caught out by this before.
Try wheeling the speed attribute to zero or 100% and see if it solves.

I thank you for the response but, i have already ran up against that problem and have solved it by inverting the speed when patching. This is what I do when I am running on the classic side. I just can't get control of them on the titian side. If you can think of anything else, it would be helpful. Just weird that they work on the classic and not titan. I had the same problem when a guest LD brought his expert titan with him and could not get control. That is what got me started on this mystery.
I have no idea.
Set fixture to DMX001, 15ch mode. Start a new show.
Patch 15x dimmers starting DMX001.
Go through each dimmer and write down what they control.
New show.
Patch 1x Q-Spot 300, 15 DMX at DMX001
Open DMX View (View/Patch)
Select fixture and adjust each attribute in turn. Observe the output on the DMX View and check that the attribute you expect changes and that it corresponds to the offset you wrote down from the dimmer test.
If all the channels adjust and correspond then the personality is working. If the fixture is not responding then it must be because one of the attributes is set to a value that is stopping (or appearing to stop) control.

Fixed it
I fixed my problem. It was that the control channel was sending a signal to the units right off the bat. All I did was make a copy of the personality, go in to it and change the control dmx channel. Problem solved. Don't really need it because i never lamped off the units because it sent them in to a weird macro. If anyone else is having a problem with their lights this may be what is going on. Now I can use my full rig with the titan software.

I tried the new up date to the personality. I don't see any change. I went back in and changed the control channel to 0 and inverted the speed (from 100% to 0%) on both the power on and the locate values to get rid of the slow movement. It does not seem that the power on and the locate has anything to do with it. The control channel for both is 0%. The only thing that seems to work is eliminating the control channel all together.

Ah, heck, yeah, now I see it: speed locates to the slow end of the range. I will change it and submit it to Peter - I am sure it will be in the download beinning of next week.
May I ask you to post the lines you changed, or - even better - send me your edited file via email, so I can cross-check. Thank you for all your patience and your testing.

Only to conclude this here:
- we found a way to make everything working (changes to the speed channel, the control channel, and the channel layout for 13ch mode)
- Danzig4U confirmed it working - THANKS for the feedback
- I just submitted it to FixtureSupport - I am sure it'll be in the library soon
