Titan Mobile Connection Problem

I've been using my Titan Mobile on my laptop with no problems, however I just tried hooking it up to my desktop at home to do some pre-programming and it doesn't seem to connect to either the Titan Mobile software or the USB Expert software.

I do know that the Mobile powers on because of the LED sequence it does at powerup, and the first time I ran Titan Mobile, it asked me for my activation code (which I put in). However, any buttons I press definitely do not register in the software or in USB Expert. I've tried adjusting all of the Windows security settings to no avail. I've updated to the most current release of the Titan software and I've updated my Mobile via USB Expert as well, but nothing's making any difference.

My laptop is running Windows 7 32bit and my desktop is running Windows 7 64bit. Please let me know if I'm overlooking something; what can I do to use my Mobile on my desktop as well as my laptop?

Maybe the required services don't start, for whatever reason. One thing you can dio: start the USB Expert console (Start -> Programs -> Avolites -> USB Expert console). In that tool, you should see any buttonpress or fadermove. In you case it's likely you don't see those, and get the message 'Acw Usb Service Not running' (in theb statusbar). If so, click 'Tools' (from the Usb Expert Console menu), Acw Service... Which option are active? Start, Stop...

Also, you might attempt to start the service via Windows System Management. But let's give the a.m. method a try first.

Hello,

You're correct, I don't see any button presses or fader moves in USB Expert and it tells me that the ACW service is not running. The only option available when I click the tools drop down menu is "Start." I've tried clicking it, but nothing happens.

This also has happened on my laptop once, but when I clicked the ACW service "Start," that cleared the issue up right away.

Okay, so: next thing would be to look why the service doesn't start. Don't know how familiar you're with Windows internals. either you get there by 'Control Panel' -> Administration, or you right-click on the desktop icon, and select 'manage' (sorry, I don't have an english XP on my boxes).

Or (old way, but usually gives exact feedback, or names the errors): open a command prompt (Win+R, then type 'cmd', and hit OK), and input

Code: Select all

net start "Avolites Expert USB"
ENTER/RETURN

(input it exactly with the double quotes)
This will either start the service, or give you an error with a reason.

With those information I am sure Avo software dept. could help you further.

I ran the cmd prompt and here's the error message that I got:

"System error 1058 has occurred

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it"

Hope that gets us somewhere.

Yes, that's something which should bring us somewhere.

- in USB Expert console, Tools menu, try 'Repair USB drivers'
- else: windows system, device manager. Search for 'unknown devices'. Maybe just one driver is not instaleld correctly - try right-click on it, 'update driver'
- else: insert the cd, and install Titan Mobile again (the drivers are installed when the program is installed.
- last resort: contact Avolites software dept.

Would be cool if you could feedback here which way finally made it running.

I had exactly the same problem with my Titan Mobile when I first got it. I couldn't get it to work no matter what. And it also had something to do with that ACW thing not starting...

In the end, nothing helped except for formating the laptop and installing win 7 (I had been using XP). Then it just worked. Was a very fustrating time.

I am sure this can be fixed without reinstalling Windows. Thing is: originally, there were problems with the way how windows needs to register services - and those issues were dependent from the windows version and the language. Oliver from software knows this, and obvioulsy the solution as well... That's why contacting Oliver at this point will certainly be th best way.

Is your machine running the latest version of Microsoft's .NET?
Used to work at Avo. Freelance now.

Hey John,

I am not sure, I will have to check out my version of .NET when I get back on my desktop.

What actually did work is this: I went to "Control panel," "Administrative Tools," and then "services" to look at my Acw service. It was completely disabled for some reason (I couldn't even start it manually). However, I could change it from "disabled" to "manual" and then I was able to start the service and USB expert worked.

Oliver is thinking it might be my antivirus (Norton) that's causing the problem, however Norton's control panel is not very user friendly and I'm having a hard time figuring out what specific services it's blocking.

Either way, this looks to be the silver bullet. Thank you all for chiming in and helping. I'm going to update my .NET first thing and see if I don't even have to mess with Norton.
