Titan V4.0 DMX Output Workspace Window

Postby davewarehouselx » 28 Jan 2011, 17:19

I've just been having a look through the V4 new features on our Expert. The DMX Output workspace window is a great addition, however it seems to have a wee bug (unless I am missing something obvious of course!). When you select more than one fixture (eg a group of 6 Macs) and put, for example, Intensity to full the DMX output window does not show the correct increase for all fixtures. It appears to just to show a change to the last fixture in the group. So with the group of macs only the dimmer value of number 6 changes on screen (the other 5 remain static. However the desk outputs the correct values and the Intensity attributes are shown correctly when you look at the channel output screen. I've tried this a few times and reset the desk etc.

The DMX output window is the sort of thing you are only likely to be using if you are having a problem (fixtures not responding as you'd expect for example), you therefore need to be 100% confident that it is giving a true reflection of the desk output for it to be usuable.

If anyone can shed any light on this that would be great.

Thanks

Dave

I can't repeat this. Can you give steps to reproduce?

Hi Nic

Select multiple fixtures (group of 6 macs in my example), Display DMX Output workspace window, Select Intensity attribute and use wheel to increase 'dimmer' to 100%. When you look at the dmx output values of dimmer channel levels in the DMX Output window only the value of the last unit in the group has changed. You can then use the attribute wheel to adjust the value back down to 50% etc. to observe this - no change on the other five fixtures DMX output according to this screen. However, if you jump to the visualiser or Standard Channel output window you will find that the desk is actually doing what it is supposed to - changing dimmer levels for all fixtures as you would expect.
My problem therefore is that the DMX output window is not actually reflecting the DMX output!
Hope that makes it a little bit clearer. If it helps I am using Mac 250 Entours in 16Bt Extended mode and have a touch wing so am using the attribute wheels on that to make the changes.

All the best

Ok. I think I've found it. It is related to fixture page.

It appears the DMX view is only updating to show fixtures that are patched on the fixture page currently in view with the exception of the last selected fixture.

Workaround is to switch fixture page(s) which immediately updates the view.

/edit: This also means that if the fixtures are patched in the fixture workspace (touch) and this window is not open then any fixtures patched there will not update (except last selected). I suspect this is what you are seeing.

Thanks Nic - I'll have a look at that workaround next time have the desk fired up. I guess it is a bug though - should I be informing anyone else about this?

All the best

Note my edit.

Bug no doubt. It being here is usually enough. Even if developers don't post these threads normally get read and noted. I will also add it to the list I submit.
