No Swing/Shape movinghead

Postby LJ-Jochem » 05 Dec 2010, 17:54

Need some help with the following. Yesterday my movinghead's were all in a move/shape and then I wanted one of the heads to stop swinging so I could (live) pan/tilt it to a dancer. I tried but failed. Looked it up in the manual and it said to select the fixture and then edit the shape but this doesn't work because it said that there was no shape selected :? So I was thinking  why there isn't a soft-button were you can select "No Swing / Shape" so only the selected fixture(s) will stop and all the rest will stay in his movement.

Further more I always do my show in Program mode. I know that in running mode there is the Tap button for the chase speed. I like to see this Tap button also in Program mode. I know, you have the scroll wheels but sometimes tapping is faster and you could use the scroll wheels for fine tuning.

Which desk are you using?

With classic software/desks, I'd say: no easy way. Running shapes (in a memory) supersede other (fixed) positions in other memories. Maybe starting point would be
- include the memory with the shape
- then: select the fixture, edit shapes, delete
- overwrite memory

With TITAN:

- chose the fixture, run shape 'block all shapes' (or 'block pan/tilt shapes')
- save this into a new memory
- preferably assign this memory a higher priority
- fire up this memory...

Note with Titan specifically using Block P shape (and other individual groups) is probably better than block all. There is one particular problem with using 'all'. Details are somewhere here. Can't remember right now.

And, if we are talking Titan then personally I set the blue key for tap with chases. I'm not sure whether there would be space on the softkeys in Program mode. This is an important area for programming functions.

We have an Expert with Titan. Thanks for all replies. I will check the Block item.

Nic, Could you explain some more on the use of the blue button for tapping a chase speed? Do you mean the blue swop button above the playback fader? Is there a description in the manual how to program that?

Thanks!

Key profiles. Manual section 11.2.

In addition:

You can create/manage these from the user settings menu in program mode as well as from system.
Also, when creating a profile you can shortcut to the key type by pressing that key. For example, pressing the blue key on a playback containing a chase will present you with the options for blue key and chase.

So, you can create a profile called 'Tap'. This could be based on the program profile except for the blue key on chases which you set to 'Tap Tempo'. Select this profile in Program mode and now all your chases have a tap function on the blue key instead of solo. This will be stored with the show and will remember when you restart/load.

For specific chases where you might want the solo but not require tap you can override this via playback options and set the individual playback to use another profile - ie. Run.

Other useful tricks with profiles include giving no function to the blue key to avoid accidental blackouts. I use this on some cues on presets where you might mistakenly think you are selecting a fixture but where, because it is a cue it would normally cause a solo. Similarly, you could define blue keys as flash on presets, giving you a flash key while still allowing you to store a palette on the grey key.

In Run mode the last two profiles selected are remembered and can be toggled on [Softkey A]. This means that you could toggle between Run and Tap or Takeover and Tap quickly giving you access to solo and tap on chase functions respectively.
