Hardware upgrades

Postby Granni » 14 Dec 2004, 07:55

Hi,

Correct me if im mistaken, but it seems that the Pearl 2004 is actually very much like a desktop pc with RAM, CPU, harddisk?

If so, am i able to do a memory upgrade? If its DOS mode i understand the 640k limit.

Thanks

I am afraid you are very much mistaken.

The Pearl 2004 is similar to a PC in that it has RAM and a CPU however that is where the similarities end. The Pearl has no hard disk, instead it uses Flash memory. The motherboard architecture is completely different and so does not support parts that you would use in a normal PC.

Just like you can not use some CPUs in certain motherboards you can not use any other parts in a Borris.

Upgrading your Pearl with parts not supplied by Avolites could cause serious harm to your desk, so I do not recommend it. Please do not be tempted by the lampies desire to do things you are not supposed to, it will only end in tears.
