Using mask when programming fixtures

Postby kjn » 10 Feb 2010, 09:46

Hi

I'm working on a show now, with a lot of different acts ( bands, dancing, theatres and so on). I will therefore want to do a lot of different stuff during the show. So I want to record one cue that controls only the dimmer attribute of my moving heads, and then other cues that controls different other stuff ( as colours, shapes, pan/tilt ).

I've tried to use the mask function when programming palettes, and then apply palettes to the fixtures I want, and then record a cue. And I've masked out the dimmer from all of the palettes. This I can do. But then, when I try to tell the table/fixtures that they are meant to only turn the dimmer to 100 %, not include pan/tilt, colour or anything else it doesn't work.
I record a cue with this palette, I fire another cue with the right position and colur(becaus I don't want the audience to see the lights changing colour and position), and then I fire the cue wich are ment to only turn the intensity up. But no, the second cue totally override the first one, turns the coulor blank, even if I told it not to mess with the coulor, and then it moves them back to the starting position.

Anyone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'll be really glad:)

You don't mention which console/software, but it hopefully it shouldn't matter.

Currently in both Classic and Titan you can mask palettes but not cues. When recording cues you have three recording options - Fixture, Channel and Stage. The default mode is 'by fixture'

'By channel' will store only the values that are in the programmer and this is what you need to use. Press clear to clear the programmer, select fixture(s), select attribute(s) and adjust values as required. When you go to store the record mode will appear on the softkeys. Press this to toggle to 'by channel' and then the required playback swop. This mode will remain until you change it.

To remove unwanted information from a cue you can use 'OFF': Select fixture(s), select attribute, Press OFF, press softkey to remove offending attribute. Merge on top of cue.

Have a look at the manual to understand more about the modes, how to view what is in the programmer and other related functions.

This was just the information I needed;)

I've read the manual up and down, but a lot of stuff I don't understand because they forget that I've never used any Pearl before, and then don't have the way of thinking in my head. But me and my pearl, we get better friends every day:D
