Titan for the D4, still waiting..............

Postby LD Andy » 30 Nov 2009, 03:24

So I am still waiting for Titan to be implemented on the D4. My Pearl Expert w/ Titan is working great, but why am I having flashbacks of my new Sapphire 2000 waiting for updates that never came turning it into a dinosaur. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Avo consoles layout, and there stability, this is our ninth Avo console. But I am still waiting, so how much longer for the D4 Titan?

ME TOO!
I felt a "shout" was in order.
I would love to know roughly when Titan will be released for the D4.

Seriously, no reply from Avo. I asked this question at LDI to the Avo Team, and was very disappointed in the answer of "We are working on Expert Titan, and Tiger Touch right now, maybe sometime next year". Not the answer I want to hear when the last update the the D4 was July 2008.
Still waiting.........

Come on guys, I searched back, and found this post from Jan. 9, 2009 almost a year ago. Also what ever happened to the beta test site?

I was trying to avoid posting in this thread but given the speculation I think I have to.

The truth is that there is no confirmed release date for the release of the D4 Titan software. All I can tell you is that it is complete and in the process of being released to beta testers. This is usually a good indication that the final release will be fairly soon but our priority is always stability.

I am afraid I can not tell you any more now than I could then.

Whilst I am very much liking the new Touch console and think it's a great step in the right direction I am very dissapointed in what has happened to the D4, given it's what started this whole Titan revolution in the first place...

I know of at least one person who only bought a D4 because Titan was coming. I myself did a lot of testing of Titan but was forced to leave the D4 platform because things kind of stalled.

I hope you D4 users all see something soon.
I will be keeping my eyes on the development of the Touch closely as I see a great potential, however I hope it's not expense of the flagship console.

Hi everyone,

It's great that you're all so enthusiastic about D4 Titan, but there is only so much we can do! When the recession hit, people stopped buying as many D4s, as you can all imagine a console that lists at 6480 is a much more attractive option to buyers than one which lists at near 20,000. We would love to be able to release D4 Titan, but for the moment we are focusing on the Tiger Touch and Expert. Our software team do a fantastic job, and are working extremely hard on Titan V3, but even they can only do so many things at once!

I hope you all understand that we really are doing our best, and will get D4 Titan to you as soon as it is ready. In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying using Titan on the Touch and Expert.

What I don't understand Emma (hi by the way and lovely to see someone new join the avo team, my favourite bunch of people working for a lighting company) is that the Software really is there for the D4. I know because I used it for a good 2 years nearly, and the same OS is now running on all consoles.

From all accounts it strikes me way more as a marketing decision in order to push my Pearls because they sell better, than a problem with the D4 side of things. After all Titan is designed around D4 and is then shoehorned into the cumbersome and aging Pearl physical interface.

Surely you guys want to keep the customers that did shell out that 20grand happy and have your flagship console be just that. Where as right now it's being left behind.

Could it be that not so far down the line we're about to see a D5 if it will with more touch screens and an expanded Tiger Touch interface so that's where resources are being channeled? That would make sense to me...

In my opinion the Tiger Touch is the right way to be headed, it's a great little console. Why dumb down that software and again shoehorn it into the aging D4 hardware when you can package it in a nice shiny new box and sell it for 25grand :) Diamond Touch has a nice ring to it as well.
Cheers

Of course it's important that the D4 sees development and I can totally understand these concerns after investment.

But I wonder whether you are missing out on so much.
As you point out the Titan software has its roots in the D4 software. Much of the development on the Expert and Touch focuses on making those functions available on the respective control surfaces.

The jump from Classic to Titan is significant, but the difference between D4 v2.4 and Titan v2.0 is much less so.

It is interesting to see the response from Emma on this issue. Thank you for replying. However this is the problem with investing in the Avo flagship consoles. The Sapphire 2000 was a nice addition, more handles, pallet menus, lcd playbacks labels. But it got left out on updates, and fell behind as focus on development went back to the pearl, and eventually was left by the wayside. I am seeing the same thing happen again with my D4. My pearl expert is getting more updates, and remote options than my D4 has in 2 years.
This is why I am having to look at other options in consoles. MA Grand is doing what titan was sold to me as supposed to do. File compatibility across the consoles, Fullsize to Ultralite. Titan was supposed to allow me to go from expert to D4? Remote capability, expert yes, with D4 I have to vnc my laptop. Not the best thing to have in a lift focusing, or teching an issue. And what about more than 12 universes?
I like Avo consoles, but I am starting to sell off my consoles, and replacing them with another brand, due to this lack of support. Trust me I understand the financial problems, but it seems that the support, and commitment that I have given to Avo, is not being reciprocated.

Fair enough, I understand that Titan for the Experts (eventually) not doing anything that the D4 can't do already. But erm, what about new features/functions for the D4?

I just can't help but worry that Avolites will get left behind its competitors in the 'big desk' market, so desks designed for large festival rigs, arena tours, etc. I've lost track of the amount of press releases and tour kit lists I've seen where the desks been something other than an Avo D4 :(

Lets hope the company stays as responsive to the needs/requests of its kits users as it always has been and starts pushing the D4 forward again rather than just doing the Expert stuff which whilst I'm sure is profitable, doesn't IMO help establish your presence in the top console sector of the market.

Regards, Tom
