Postby vietnt » 05 Nov 2008, 09:58

Hi There,
Im from Vietnam and own one Pearl Expert. Can I replace the Kingston 512 MB PC2-3200 DDR2 RAM (kvr400d2n3/512) inside the console with something faster like DDR2 1.0GB bus 667 (PC2-5300) Kingston or DDR2 2.0GB bus 800 (PC2-6400) Kingston.
Please advise asap.

You can fit up to 3GB of DDR2 533/667 into the Pearl Expert. Why do you need to change the RAM?

I need to upgrade the RAM, not to replace. The Ram stick inside the console is just 521mb, I need it to be faster and decide to buy more.
Please advise is it possible to upgrade to 1gb or 2gb of RAM?
My Pearl Expert having sudden hang the console problem and a guy told me that it because of the RAM. Is it correct?

Upgrading your RAM will not fix the problems you are having. The console has been designed and tested to run with the specific RAM you have. The Pearl Expert software is designed to have a fixed memory usage so putting more RAM in will have no effect. It may even make the problems worse.

There are a number of reasons why the console may hang and I would need more description about the precise nature of the problem before I could recommend things to try. There is a number of ways the console may appear to hang. For example it may be that the key presses stop having effect but you can move the mouse on the console.

Maybe one reason that you where recommended to change the RAM is that sometimes the RAM chips jump out of the socket slightly. This is a simple fix, you just remove the RAM chips and re-seat them by firmly pressing them into the slot. There is no need to change the actual RAM chips.

edit: putting more (or faster) RAM in the console will have no effect on the performance of the console.
