How to make a position chase move one step a time

Postby csgushen » 18 Jul 2007, 04:04

In one act,the actor needs move for 4 positions, from A to B、C,finally going back to A.The actor stays for a while at each position.I want the chase to go manually ,I used to test a way which the light can stop manually at some point between (for example)A and B, but I want the light stop at the accurate position B.how can I do it?
Another question is,how to make a light move rapidly or slowly from one static cue to the second static cue.
Thanks.

Several ways of doing this.

1,Build a chase as per normal then connect to it, pause and advance it manually.

2, Record each position into PB and then advance along the desk for each position.

Do you want to create the impression that the individual fixture is moving to each position or do you just want to have four different positions. If the later then best use four different fixtures for four different positions (assuming you have at least four)

Accuracy depends on the fixture and what mode you are running in.

Another question is,how to make a light move rapidly or slowly from one static cue to the second static cue.

You can set the move time for fixtures in any memory/PB.

Hope this helps.

You can take manual control of chase cues.

Record the three positions into a chase.

[edit times], toggle [link] (softbutton F)

This will globally unlink each step of the chase. That means it will not automatically advance until you say so. You can do this either via the Chase [go] button, the chase [next] button or the relevant Playback [Add] button.

On advance, the cue will then be faded at the times set in [edit times].

You can also manually fade between unlinked steps by wheel. Moving the wheel at any point during an automated fade will immediatedly interrupt and allow you to override.

Note that you can take this further and edit times/links for each step of a chase. This is called a 'complex' chase and the easiest way to adjust is to [unfold] the chase and then perform [edit times] on each step (layed out on playbacks as individual cues).

Regarding chase control, you must be connected to the chase. This will be automatic if it is the last chase recalled (if autoconnect is enabled in user settings). Otherwise press [connect] followed by relevant playback Add button.

For advancing steps by Playback [Add] you do not need to be connected but there exists a bug which also applies to connecting - if you change page (roller or facet) the new page must contain a chase on the particular fader otherwise [Add] will not advance and [connect] will not allow you to connect.

Also, it is important to realise that when a chase is 'unlinked', you must manually advance the first cue after activating the playback. ie. raising playback does not immediately recall first cue.

Alternatively you can operate the desk in Theatre Stack mode whereby the last three Playbacks become crossfade controllers. Never been there & it's all a big mystery...
