I have a problem with my old Pearl 2004 desk. Every time I boot it up, it won't start directly from last save, or last show. It just gives me 7 different options :
A. Start System
B. Burn a new program
C. Verify
D. Save Program
E. AVOS Extender
F. Renew License
1. Wipeall & Start System
2. Disk to Memory Burn Program ( Show Data vill be lost)
Please select an option.
If I choose "A. Start System", the last used patch is lost, and if I try to load a show from floppy, the fixture patch is correct but I get problems with dimmers and fixtures not reacting when I select said dimmers or fixtures to "dim 100%" It can take up to 10 seconds or more before dimmers or fixtures react to any command I send out from the desk.
Could this just be a software bug, or is it a hardware fault somewhere in the desk?

Re: Pearl 2004 startup problems
This all sounds like hardware to me. I recommend you contact service.
Starting in AVOS suggests a jumper may be missing or set correctly on the motherboard, but the sluggishness is a different matter. By all means open up, check jumps and everything is seated correctly.
In particular pay attention to program link 1. The pins should not be connected by the jumper. See image here.

Re: Pearl 2004 startup problems
Thank you for the tip niclights! The sluggishness disappears if I choose to start a new show and then repatch my patchlist. If I do so, the console works as normal. But if I turn it off-on it goes straight back to the "boot-meny" Could it be some kind of problem with the internal battery?
Here is a link to an image of the boot-meny

Re: Pearl 2004 startup problems
The linked page says 'unavailable'. However, it is not necessary. The menu is called AVOS (Avolites Operating System). It is normally used when updating the software although it is not a problem other than having to select [Start System] every time and having to reload the show.
Check the internal link first. If that is set correctly then, yes, I would imagine it could be battery but you need to contact the service department to clarify.
Regarding performance if it works at normal speed from a wipeall then this suggests it is a problem with the show. At a guess I suspect there are a lot of fixtures patched (including ones subsequently deleted) and/or a large number of HTP channels (this might be just dimmers or multi-cell fixtures, for example LED battens or sunstrips etc. that have an HTP mode). The software has a limit of 240 HTP channels and it will slow down as you approach this. 10sec is very extreme though. I would expect maybe around 1sec delay recalling palettes if it is at the limit. You can check the patch by connecting a VDU and entering the patch menu. All fixtures past and present will be listed on the right-hand side.
Unfortunately if it is the showfile then the bottom line is there's not much you can do other than starting a new show.
