Need help to write a personnality for a DJ color changer...

Postby Mystic » 15 Oct 2005, 23:14

I need some help to write a personnality file for a DJ color Changer (Geni Fresco 150 HTI). I am ok with the file format of the fixtures for the pearl 2004 but i don't see how to do what i want...

The fixture is 2 channel, there is no dimmer, just a color wheel, a strobe/shutter wheel and a narrow/wide lens. Channel one is a color wheel (first indexed colors then rotation), this is the simple one, the second channel is laid out as follows :
0-16 : closed, narrow lens
17-111 : strobe increasong speed narrow lens
112-127 : open narrow lens
128-144 : closed wide lens
144 - 239 : increasing strobe wide lens
240 - 255 : open wide lens
The fact is that when switching from narrow lens to wide lens (and back) the fixture will flash three times as the strobe wheel recalibrates (don't ask me why but it does), however if i stick to the same lens it is ok.

What i want is to be able to select narrow or wide lens as LTP parameter and then flash the fixture using the channel add or kill button. what i do for now is declare channel 2 as dimmer (which is HTP) and use the following trick : i i want narrow, i set the channel to zero and set master add to 50% (then flash will do it). If i want wide, i set the channel to 51% and set the master add to 100%. But this is not really practical (i cannot flash one fixture in narrow and the neighbour in wide). (i have also thought about reduce fixture ontensity or reduce channel max to stick to narrow)

I have thought about declaring this second channel as a LTP channel and then make a bunch of memories to have all my 4 states and flash them but this is not practical neither as it uses a lot of submasters.

Is there a trick to go around with thoses awfull fixtures and still use the channel add button ? Or is this a place for new improvement in the personnality file.

thanks for your help, i'm getting crazy..

ps: is it possible to declare a DMX channel twice ? or to specify a channel value offset (like the max) so i can split the two functions... ?

I don't think there is anything you can do in personality other than decide whether the channel is LTP or HTP. AFAIK there is no way to declare the channel twice etc.

I would choose one of two routes - Either set to LTP and use mode2 PB's for flashing, or set to HTP and store/recall the base settings as palettes. HTP palettes do work although there are issues which I cannot remember the details of now. Maybe they don't work through Quick Palette?

Ok the channel is obviously LTP, now instead of using the submasters is it possible to map the add/kill button of dimmer-less fixtures to shutter open/close function ? (i will post a feature request for this).
