Pearl 2004 simulator refusing to start

Postby pscandrett » 14 Jul 2008, 21:17

Hi - I've just installed the Pearl 2004 simulator on my Windows XP Home laptop without any problems but when trying to run the software I get an error:

---------------------------
Pearl.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

This pops up twice then the application closes (well, it never really got as far as opening really...!).

My machine is fully up to date with updates and is running a virus checker - I hestitate to say this because no doubt it will come back and bite me(!) but I'm a competent computer user and can't think of anything else that might be causing it to fall over/not work. I've rebooted just for the heck of it to see if that made a difference (it didn't).

Is there a way of diagnosing why this isn't work and/or fixing it please?

Many thanks

I wonder if it has not downloaded properly.

Try downloading again and make sure you are not using any download managers.

Seems like a bit of an odd suggestion but I've downloaded it again (firefox 3), reinstalled and am still getting the same error. I would have thought the installer would have bombed out had there been an error downloading the package, anyway?

I only really posted here in case you'd heard of the issue before.

Oh well :-(
