Unable to insert a generic dimmer.

Postby AnotherTom » 16 Jan 2014, 22:22

Hi,

I'm building a rig in the visualiser which includes single channel dimmer lights, e.g molfey, but I am unable to find a suitable fixture in either the moving head or moving mirror lists within the visualiser. According to this thread http://forum.avolites.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2588&p=10703#p10728 there should be a fixture labled just as 'Generic', but it doesn't appear in the lists. I've checked that the GENERIC.vis file is there and that it is correct (against the online version).

Has anyone else had this issue? or am I trying to add the fixture from the wrong place? (the 'M Hd' / 'M Mir' on the left hand panel)

Thanks.

Which Vis version are you using? from within Titan, or standalone?

It seems like you are right: the 'Generic' fixture doesn't show up in the Moving Head Fixture list (testing with the Visualiser from the latest Titan version, but started standalone). The workaround is: instead of selecting the fixture from the drop-down list, click on the list, type 'Generic', and hit 'Add One'.

I'm using standalone, version 7.40 from the Avolites downloads page.
Thanks for the tip.

You should find it at the very bottom of the 'G's under moving heads. The fact that it is at the bottom is usually what catches people out.

Excluding my possible blindness, I'm sure it isn't listed at the end of the 'G's having looked through them multiple times.

As icke_siegen says you can type in the word Generic in the box and it should find it. It will be in the moving light list not the moving mirror list. The ordering is based on the 11 character name on the Pearl 2000/2004 which is what is used to reference the files. Most generic personalities are prefixed GEN_ but the generic personality does not have an underscore, so is sorted after.

There ends the mystery.

Checking here in 7.40 it is definitely there.
Currently it resides between 'Generic RGB, 3 DMX' and 'High End Studio Spot'.
It requires two files to work - Generic.r20 in the visualiser/personalities folder and Generic.vis in the visualiser/extensions folder.

So it does. Thought i may have been missing it, since both .r20 and .VIS were there.

Thanks for helping guys :D
