patching the simulator and connect it with the visualiser

Postby Georg » 23 Nov 2004, 14:32

Hi @ all,

I have many problems:
I've loaded the Pearl Simulator and the Visulaliser from the Avolite Download Website (after the virus infection was repaired).
I created my own aps.cmp file with the cachebuilder (mac500 all modes, mac 600 all modes, roboscan pro 518 all modes, atomic 3000 all modes, magnum pro 2000, magnum hazer and zr24/7 hazer) and load it on the simulator.
But I'm not able to complete the patch.

I've 4 Roboscans 9channel mode, 4 mac500 16 channel mode, 4 mac600 14 channel mode, 2 atomics4 channel mode, 2 magnum pro 2000 and 2 hazer (magnum hazer or the other one, I do not know it yet).

And I want to patch:
Roboscans to Swop Buttons 1-4
Mac500 to 5-8
Mac600 to 9-12
Atomics to 13, 14
Magnum pro 2000 to 15, 16
And the hazers to 17, 18

And perhaps a Dimmer with 25 or 30 channels to the buttons 31-60, but that's not the problem.

I choose the following DMX Channels:

Roboscan 1: 1
Roboscan 2: 10
Roboscan 3: 19
Roboscan 4: 28

Mac 500 1: 37
Mac 500 2: 53
Mac 500 4: 69
Mac 500 5: 85

Mac 600 1: 101
Mac 600 2: 115
Mac 600 3: 129
Mac 600 4: 143

Atomic 3000 1: 157
Atomic 3000 2: 161

Magnum 2000 1: 165 (Don’t know how much channels it need, reserve 2)
Magnum 2000 2: 167

Hazer 1: 169
Hazer 2: 171

Dimmer with 30 channels: 173

What I did:

I press Patch, Choose a fixture, choose the folder where my aps.cmp file is, load them, choose robo-p518M2, (automatic create preset focuses) yes, 001 on line A (because the starting address of the first roboscan is 1) and swob button 1.

And:

"Patch failed, attempt to overwrite"

The same happens on every swap button wit every kind of fixture and I don't know why.

I created with the Visualiser a theatre with all the Scans, Macs and Atomics (Hazer and Fog not available in Visualiser).
Perhaps the Simulator need a "theatre" to "find" the Roboscans and Macs, I don't know.
And I don't know how to connect the Simulator with the Visualiser.

Thank You for your help.

Hi,

I can't see much wrong with what you are doing.

A couple of suggestions...
Have you tried a Wipeall before patching?
Try patching without automatic Preset Focuses.

Most importantly make sure you have the .vis file to go with the relevant .r20 file.

Re: linking the simulator with visualiser. Do you have the dongle?

Hope that makes sense. My German wouldn't!
(If you value your health try not to use Roboscans  )

Dongle

Postby Georg » 23 Nov 2004, 15:37

Hi, thank you for your answere.

I read "dongle" sometimes in this forum, but
what the hell is the "dongle" :D
But I wasn't able to find any informations about it, how to youse it or where I could get it.

I tried a Wipeall, four times

But I don't understand how the tirst swob button could be occupied, because I did no configuration before.
And there is still something I don't understand too:

I quote from the pearl 2000/2004 manual:

How do I patch a Mac600 to handle 10?
Press Patch, then B [Choose a fixture]. (Ensure the
re is no disk in the
disk drive). Press F [More] until one of the softkey options is
MMac600m4. Press the softkey for that option. Wait for the Pearl to
Disk button
Page 14 - 2. Patching
Pearl 2004 Manual v1 - 27th August 2004
load the personality. When the Pearl asks “Use preset palettes?” press
A [Yes]. Note the DMX address where the Pearl is going to patch (on
the top line of the display). Press Swop button 10 to patch the fixture.
Press Exit twice to leave Patch mode. Finally set the Mac 600’s DMX
address to match the Pearl (we have used the Mode 4 personality so it
will also need to be in Mode 4).

Note the DMX address where the Pearl is going to patch ......

Finally set the Mac 600’s DMX
address to match the Pearl (we have used the Mode 4 personality so it
will also need to be in Mode 4)........

two DMX addresses ????
:?:

I thought, I just have to Note the Adress with the starting channel (for example: 10, and it will use 10-23 (14channels)).....

You have to purchase the dongle from Avo. It is a small box you plug in the back of the computer. You need this to use the Sim and Vis together.

Are you sure you have both the .vis and .r20 personalities?
Desk only needs the .r20, but Sim needs the .vis also.

"Finally set the Mac 600's DMX ...."

This means on the lamp itself !

Allright, I need the dongle to connect my computer with the visualiser to the real console, but I only want to connect it to the simulator.

It must work, however:

I quote from the pearl simulator download page:

Pearl Simulator v1.2

Full compatibility with September 2000 Software. Visualiser 6.08 also included, allowing demo theatres to be used without a dongle.
WARNING .........

How? :)
I think I have to change some settings in the visualiser, but which one???

I've still the first problem:

I'm not able to patch.
Perhaps somebody could try it with his simulator and write me exactly what he, or she has done.

Thanks to all

Patch problem solved

Postby Georg » 24 Nov 2004, 00:34

I solved my patch problem.

I wasn't able to patch, because many swob buttons were occupied (from earlier patch tries).

I did a Wipeall and it works, but I did it like in reality (turn key to "system", select A,.......) because the other "Wipeall" (File / Wipeall) only restarted the software, but didn't delet the attitudes.

It's very confusing, if two functions have the same name :D

But there is still the problem with the Visualiser.
How can I connect the Visualiser (with my own created theatre, suitably to my attitudes) to the Pearl Simulator, only to the Simulator (Without a dongle).

Thanks for your help

Glad you solved it! I never tried the File/Wipeall - that may be a bug.

I don't use it at the moment because I get 100% processor usage!
2004 sim is on its way - hopefully lots of bugs will be sorted ;-)

Unfortunately you will need the dongle to use sim with your theatre - no way around it I'm afraid.

Thank you Nic.

I don't need to connect the two peograms anymore.

I thought I need some lights to be able to patch, but now it works.
