Upgrading a very old Avo Pearl

Postby alpooree » 02 Apr 2008, 10:42

We got a very old Pearl (it says Rolacue Pearl on the top and the serial number is 454), which seems to be born in 1996.

The software is April 11 1996 version.
We tried to upgrade the software according to your manual but it didn't work.

When we selected Avos Extender with 720kb disk, it didn't go further. It keeps showing the A,B,C,D,E menu. (the initial display of Avos System)

How can we solve this problem?
Can this Pearl run 2008 software? or at least 2000 software?

I'm sure you cannot run 2008 soft. For 2004 does the console have extended memory fitted? (xfree at the bottom of LCD)

How about 2000 software?
How can we upgrade this Pearl with 2000 software?

At this point, it says just 99% Free (Not xFree) at the bottom.

I have noted that my display does not show "XFREE", even after installing the memory upgrade...

The memory test (in the system menu) shows that the memory is present, but probably the old application (version 1998) does not have the "XFREE" displaying option....

So I advise to use the system menu -> Memory Test to reveal if you have extended memory installed.... or just open the console and check if the memory expansion module is present...

I did receive a checklist for Pearl 2004 software compatibility of the hardware... I received it from Avolites support..

It consists of the memory-upgrade and some other minor upgrades.... I will try to send it tonight... Or you can contact Nick Forro @ Avolites...

2000 soft also requires extended memory.
