DMX splitters

Hi,

just a quick question regarding DMX splitters. I was using a grandMA full-size console to send out a dmx line to an Avolite splitter.

I then plugged one set of dimmer racks to the "DMX loop out" and two other sets of dimmer racks to two of the patchbay. Everything was ok.

But when i swopped the grandMA to an Avolite Pearl console, the two dimmer rack that was patched to the two patchbay had signal proble. The lights would flicker and go off randomly.

I solved the problem by taking our the dimmer rack taht was patched to the "DMX loop out" and patching it another patchbay. So i used three of the patchbay, instead of two of it and the "DMX loop out". Everything worked well again.

I am just curious to find out what is the reason for this.

Is it because the "DMX loop out" actually takes the signal directly from the input before it passes onto the rest of the outputs?

Is this peculiar to avolite dmx splitters only?

Or does all dmx splitters work this way? Meaning i shd not plug a cable into the "DMX loop out" if i intend to split the signal?

Nick Forro is probably best suited to this question.

My understanding is the thru' connector is unbuffered. I can only think that perhaps it is the only output on the splitter that allows pass-through of all five pins and, with the standard Pearls being able to send two universes, maybe your dimmers didn't like this?

That's all just a guess!

Hi,

thx for the reply. But i am thinking that might not be it...

Coz i was using 2 of the DMX output(1 & 3, 2 & 4) only, although i had 4 lines. Which means i had alr splitted the 2 universes on each line into 1 universe on 1 line only; even before i sent it to the DMX splitter.
