Pearl Expert Rollacue Problem

Hi,

We've just acquired our first Avolites console, a Pearl Expert, we are a rental company and Lighting Directors rent our desk for their shows. There's a common complaint from our clients about our Pearl Expert, the rollers seem to get unaligned from the programmed pages. At first, we thought it was intended but most Lighting Directors said it wasn't that way with the previous Pearl versions.

When we roll to another page, the next page sometimes doesn't load until you roll the roller a few more times and then we lose track of which page is marked to what's supposed to be, what happens is that Lighting Directors tend to playback wrong cues on a show.

Thank you and we're looking forward for your kind reply on this matter.

God Bless and More Power! :D

This should not be happening and I've never experienced it. Have a look at the rollers and make sure they are securely held in place. If there's nothing obvious then I suggest you contact service direct.

Thanks, we already checked the rollers, they are both intact, even if you check them under the panel by opening it, must be a factory defect.

Just to confirm, I did mean by opening the panel. There is a problem with older rollacue where there little grub screws at the end of the roller can come loose. The characteristics are a very clicky noise on page change when it should be near silent.

This is a known problem that Avo is adressing. Contact them ASAP. My new roller is being sent as we speak.

No clicky noise on this one, while changing a page, the feel of the roller seems like there's a loose gear of some sort inside it. Sometimes the roller works, sometimes it doesn't. And it's like it has too much oil or it's too lubricated if it is supposed to be lubricated.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi, solved the problem, the metal strips in the roller mechanism that serves as stoppers are too tight, we just loosened them by bending them slightly.

If they're too tight, the rollers wont be able to hold them, so that's why the rollers kept on just sliding and wont switch to another page.

'Hope this can help those who experience the same thing that happened to our console. :D

Hi and a happy new year!

We have a roller problem too.
During transportation (in it's original case) it seems that the roller has somehow changed it's "shape". Roller is in " V " shape. Eg outer ends are higher than center ends. Roller still works electronically and we used a tape to fix one half of the roller to the other. Now it looks like old "no split roller".
Is it somekind of known fault ? The roller seems not to have any support from center.
Is there any possibility to fix it by myself (i have techical knowledge) ?

You should contact Avolites if you are experiencing this problem.

The proposed fix in this thread is not recommended!

Yeah, we had this problem. Got told it was a manufacturing error by avo. Swapped out for a new one that is supposed to be fixed, but it appears to be exactly the same (I was told the new one would have an extra pin). So we'll see what happens...

Also, for the "V" shape - it's likely the metal rod that runs the length of the roller has become unlocated, have had this problem once. Take it out, take a look inside the roller - there is a little raised section that the rod fits over. Align it corrently, and then tape the 2 sides together... you can then put the roller back into your desk, secure it, and take the tape off - and all should be well!

Hi all

Here is some more data on the Pearl Expert roller issues.

We have had occasional problems with the roller which shows themselves in different ways
we are very sorry for this inconvenience and will try to resolve the issues as soon as possible.

Spinning but no roller page change:
The early consoles used a plastic moulding. To grab the roller switch shaft this moulding was closed using a screw.
Some mouldings failed in gripping the switch and thus the roller spins without actually changing the page.

This can be remedied by inserting pin in the a cross drilled switch.
Generally we supply a new roller set on a "sale and return basis" simply contact Avolites (either sales or service) and we will ship one out
you then return the original roller set to us
Consoles manufactured after September 2007 are not affected

Badly spinning and showing a sag in the centre of the roller:
This happens when the roller dish collapses. This then allows the tube to dislocate from the dish and the roller.
The cause is tension in the actual roller dish material which reduces its strength.
Again we generally supply new roller set on a "sale and return basis" simply contact Avolites (either sales or service) and we will ship one out
you then return the original roller set to us
This may affect consoles from May 2007 till September 2007

Roller moulded ends break of the metal roller
This is a manufacturing problem which we have identified lately and caught early as well
only a few consoles escaped our attention.
and only affects some consoles shipped in late December 2007 and early Jan 2008.

Again our apologies for these unforeseen issues.

Hi Toby,
I have also problems with my pearl expert. The rollers are not aligned but a lot away of that, i mean 1 page and a half between the left roller and the right roller. I had before also the problem of the page not changing at the same time of the roller but that i think is solved now.
wath i need to know is if is bether send this rollers to you and you send me a new one? or wath i have to do, because i work in a concert hall and the desk is used by many operators and they are not happy with the rollers like this...

thanks,
flopes
