There are two sections in the manul telling readers how to use “invert”and “Swap pan& tilt”,when we want to do something for fixtures mounted sideways.which option should we choose?I got bewildered. What does “swap pan&tilt”means,it means pan axis turn into tilt axis?

I quoted them here.
Inverting pan and tilt channels can be useful to mirror fixtures on opposite sides of the stage,or to correct for hanging a fixture the wrong way round.
C: Swap pan and tilt - If you have some fixtures mounted sideways,it can be useful to swap the pan and tilt channels over.

Invert makes 0% on desk = 100% on unit.

Swap Pan/Tilt makes Pan on desk = Tilt on unit and vice-versa.

Therefore you might Invert the Tilt channel on a fixture that is placed upside-down (180 degree) to stage or in relation to other fixtures of the same type.

You might Swap Pan/Tilt if a unit is at right-angles to the stage (90 degree). Commonly the swap function is also available as a setting on the fixtures themselves.

However, the invert function only works when actually putting it in the programmer, which means it is lost on a clear. Then I still have to remember which heads need to be inverted on every new program session... Am I right? What I need is a permanent invert that is applied when the heads are patched...

Both Invert and Swap Pan/Tilt are stored in showfile.

For patching the personality file contains invert/normal value for each channel and obviously swapping pan/tilt would involve, er, swapping pan and tilt. So just edit the files for your own preference if you need.
