Hi
We have several Perl 2004 desks, and a freeze up problem on several of them. I've checked bus error display on one and it said "video 96424"or video error 96424", all 20 lines in error windows said same thing.
I'm running v1.2 and the desks are only a few month old.

Try pulling out and reseating the video card(s). I'm assuming there were still separate on the Boris3 desks. If that doesn't stop the error then I suggest calling service.

Hi
I'll try that, but since the problems often appear during shows i don't think it will help.
We got another desk back today, i checked buss display and it said "video b0504", can't say if that desk freezed during this event.
We have the same problems with all desks, that they freeze during show and we got totaly of 5 desks

I've still got that problem too. But on some weird coincidence is has never happend during showtime, always when programming. I reseated all connections and chips, that doesn't help. Also refitting the power supply would be a solution, but not for me.

Hi!
I talket to our other office and they said it might be the memory modules,
we currently have BSI modules and he said it should work better with samsung.

Please let me know if that fixes the problem and where these modules can be purchased. Thanks!

Occasional lock up Pearl 2004, RoSH compliance and memory
Posted: 17 Nov 2006, 17:56
by Ric
As you may know RoSH came into effect in summer, this required us to change a number of parts including memory devices to ensure compliance. RoSH compliance requires us to use lead free solder and also ensure that every component is compliant – so no components that were tinned with 60/40 solder can be used.
At the last minute the DTI prompted by PLASA and a number of companies including ourselves agreed that Lighting Consoles were to be categorised in Category 9, “Control and Monitoring†and these are exempt for the foreseeable future.
However we had by this time already become nearly fully compliant and made a heavy investment in time to do so. Compliant memory over the change over period was hard to source since component manufacturers stopped production of non compliant parts to ensure they were not left with stock. Meanwhile compliant memory manufacturing has taken longer to get started and demand was high. The net result was memory shortages in the March to August period and we had to use a number of different suppliers parts to continue production. All the parts are generically the same some have performance differences which came to light after using thousands of them and we have had to alter some drivers to ensure that the software works will all types of memory fitted (since 1994). Whilst we thought that all consoles had been supplied with the appropriate correct drivers we now have a single version of software which works with all memory devices so there is no need to have different drivers for different memory manufacturers.
This is version 1.2.2 and it is available by request from us or will shortly be available as a download from the web.
You only need to install this is you have identified a problem although it will not do any damage to install it into a console which did not need it, no console shipped before February need install this.
We have decided that in the spirit of the RoSH legislation we will only use lead free solder in our manufacturing process and we do not add any lead in our own manufacturing process.
As an alternative to changing the software memory devices can be changed, although replacing the software is far easier and quicker and there is less risk of damage to the motherboard.

Right on, if that's gonna get rid of the problem I'd definitely want a copy. But you mention consoles shipped before january cannot be having this problem, right? Our console shipped december 2005 as far as I know, and has the same kind of problems. Please let me know if the upgrade could fix those.
