Increase memory Quartz

Postby andriano33 » 16 Nov 2020, 08:56

Good afternoon.
Is it possible to add one more memory strip to a free socket on the board Quartz ?
Will there be an increase in system performance?

Before attempting to upgrade the RAM please ensure you are running v11.2 Recovery or above. It was at that point where the switch was made from a 32-bit to 64-bit operating system, this is necessary to allow more than 3GB of RAM to be used. The recovery version is not necessarily the same as the software version as you can run upgrade installers which just update the software. You can check the recovery version in the About box under the Tools menu. As this is a major upgrade you would need to relicense the software once the process is complete.

Thanks for the quick response.
Version 11.0 was originally installed.
This version is also on the recovery flash drive.
Version 11.4 is currently installed.
Operating system 32 bit.
Is it possible to install 64 bit OS ?

You can download the recovery creator from the Avolites website. Version 11.2 is the first recovery which is 64-bit, version 12 will require an AvoKey. You can find more information about running recoveries on this page. Apart from software versions from 12 onwards requiring an additional AvoKey, all Quartz consoles are compatible with the latest software and recovery versions.

So is it a good idea to upgrade the memory? Surely more ram is gonna help reliability?

I believe consoles can now come with 8GB of RAM fitted so in principle fitting additional ran will help to future proof your console and allow you load larger and more complicated shows. Regarding reliability and performance, additional RAM can help with this but usually only if you are already using up most of the memory you currently have fitted.
