Shape Generator - Pearl 2000/2004 Sim

Postby Craggles » 07 Sep 2006, 20:24

Hi,

Am having a problem operating the shape generator on the Pearl Sim/Vis Program

I select the fixtures with the Swop button and locate them fine, then go to shape generator and Playback a Shape. I do not, however, get a list of shapes as expected - instead the options do not change and a message of "Delete - Remove Shape // Exit - to Quit" is displayed on the screen?

What am I doing wrong? I've tried this with Mac 500m4, Mac250+m4 and Mac250 Ent Fixtures.

With the demo theatre/show disk I can make the shape generator function fine.

Cheers,

Craig

I solved this problem by downloading a fresh copy of the personality.

Seems the personalities with the Visualiser do not come with shape definitions.

I'm not sure exactly where you were going wrong, but shapes are not defined in personalities.

I believe it was to do with the fact I was using the Personality files from Visualiser.

If you download the Martin MAC 500 Personalities from the Avolites site, you get a disk full personality files, along with an SG.dat file and a few other files that don't look like personalities. I think thats what was missing.

SG.dat contains the shapes, but won't be used unless you specifically load a new shapefile via System/utilities.

The only reason fixtures might not work is if there were significant errors in their personality files.

Obviously it doesn't matter. Main thing is you got it working. Just wanted to give you some more understanding of the way it works.

Yeah,

Thanks for your input - it was appreciated! Not too sure what was going wrong, hopefully it was a quirk of the Sim rather than something I'm likley to encounter with the actual board.

If you do ever experience problems with the board, a classic giveaway that there is no shapefile (when using 2004 builds) is shapes appearing in capital letters. 2000 builds this is normal, but 2004 should be lower case.

Also, when loading a shapefile in the desk it is recommended to perform a soft reset immediately afterwards.
