Active fixture Pallets

Postby grahamrobertslx » 19 Oct 2018, 11:45

Just looking at Pre-Programming a show with a Hippo and wondering, if i patch the Hippo as an Active Fixture, will all of the Pallets and CITP thumbnails replicate across if using a different Hippo?

Also with it been a different hippo (same model etc), how does that work with re patching or fixture exchanging it? Not had to program on a different unit to the Active fixture before.

Hope that makes sense.

When a media server is patched as an active fixture each layer is technically a new fixture type which means that shared palettes do not work between layers nor the non-active fixture unless you include them all in the palette. This is because technically they can all have different media or have them assigned in different orders. However once it is programmed it doesn't actually matter if a different media server is at the other end of the DMX cable (or Art-Net in this case), the active fixture link is not used after patching so any clip names and thumbnails will be retained regardless of whether the media server is still there or not. If you need to update the clips or thumbnails you should go to Update Personality in the Patch > Edit Fixtures menu. You can also use the active fixture menu to link your patched fixtures (either active or not) to a new media server at any point and retain your programming or you can exchange to the non-active fixture in the personality library.
