In the PC requirements it says " Please ensure that all applicable updates have been installed."
- Does this mean that both Important and Optional updates for a Windows 7 system need to be turned on and installed, or just Important (which is what I do at the moment) ? My 9.1 installations on Win7SP1+Important patches have been rock-solid and I'm slightly paranoid about Optional updates de-stabilising my systems.
- Aside from the system, I'm also wondering about .NET patches e.g. I notice that this month there is a Security and Quality rollup that includes .NET3.5.1 which is rolled out as Important. Do we know if any .NET patches that are needed only get rolled out as Optional ?
I'd like to understand the best way to get to (and stay at) the PC SW spec that Avo test on internally to give me the best chance of a reliable installation with the minimum number of updates being applied at times goes by. Any insight on this would be appreciated e.g. how do the AVO test team manage their updates. This becomes moot I guess on Win10 because updates are being forced on to systems, so most applicable to Win7.
In my specific case, with 10.1 being trailed I'm planning to upgrade my 9.1 installations on Win7sp1 when it's released so I'd like to get the underlying Win7 systems ready for this with exactly the right set up of patches/updates that Avo have tested against to give the best chance of having solid systems.
Thanks for any guidance.
John.

Re: Windows7 updates - Important, Optional and .NET ?
No you should not require optional updates to be turned on, important updates should be fine. In terms of operating system and software requirements for Titan, you will definitely require the following to be installed:
I would recommend that you use the latest version of .NET 4 which at present is .NET Framework 4.6.2 as there have been various improvements including some to performance.
Installing other updates is generally a good idea to keep your system secure and reliable however it may be less of an issue if it is not connected to the Internet and remains static in terms of software installations.
- Windows 7 Service Pack 1
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
