Infinite Circle

Postby Michiel3000 » 16 Aug 2016, 17:26

Hello,

I want to make an effect of a moving light turning a circle without stopping. With a circle I mean a real circle and not like the effect circle where the beam is making a circle in one direction and than in the other.

Who knows?

If you mean you want the pan to spin infinitely then this is fixture dependent. There is nothing in software that can overcome a physical limitation. Recently there have been a number of fixtures that can do this. Usually there is a separate control channel which switches between a fixed position (using normal pan control) and CW/CCW spins with varying speeds.

If the fixture cannot do this then all you can do is use circle on the shape generator. As long as the tilt doesn't go over the mid point you will get a continuously turning circle.

Thank you for your reply, that was exactly what I meant. Can you give me an example of a fixture that can do that?

Depends what sort of fixture you want.

For traditional spots these are quite rare but DTS were making infinite pan moving heads long before anyone else did it and they make some nice fixtures. Have a look at the Rapor, Max and Jack units:

For moving led washes or beams there are plenty. One of the most popular at the moment is the Ayrton MagicBlade:
