I have been using the pearl 2004 for about 3 weeks trying to get my head around it and as a transition from an old strand GSX, not been doing to bad (i recon)

today is the first time I have realy used it in anger for an actual event..(a boring one hence me playing and stuff)

However,,, I have a number of 16 colour scrolers and see the the best way to operate them and any other fixture is via pallets. but having read the book it says that I can only preset 10 colours etc..

so is there a way to access all 16 colours other than the wheels or is it that i am having i bit of a dopey moment and not read the book right.

if ten is the only number of colours that I can quickly access am I advised to go to 10 colours on the changers and hence remove the missing of colours that I ocasionaly get.

I have looked around in other forums and it would apear that when it asks about default pallets to say NO. and prgram up the new values myself.

is this correct??

"should I say 'no' to automatically create palettes?" - yes!

There is no limit to how many colour palettes, but the confusion will be coming from the auto creation above. These will generally contain 10 colours, 10 gobos and 10 positions which neatly fit onto one page. Actually they are defined in each personality file and can be anything you desire, but saying 'no' and creating them manually will give you precise control over the 200 available palettes.

In each of these 200 palettes you can store information for all of the attributes of all available fixtures and recall whatever specific information you require. ie. you can recall by attribute (inc. all attributes), by fixture type, by individual fixture (inc. groups) and any combination thereof.

Palettes can be recalled numerically, by pressing preset Add buttons (when in Run Mode Takeover), or via the palette menu where they can be labelled. You can also perform a timed recall simply by entering the time in seconds before selecting the palette. When in the palette menu this time will remain.

Enabling the user option 'Palette Paging' will allow access to 120 palettes via the preset add buttons in combination with the Fixture Page buttons. ie. Fix Page 0 = palettes 1-30, Fix Page 1 = palettes 31-60 etc.

Enabling the user option 'Quick Palettes' will recall for all fixtures contained in the palette if no fixtures have been specifically selected. This is a very valuable feature giving fast access with careful programming.

I recommend using 'record by channel' to ensure only the required attribute information is stored.
