Strange starcloth behaviour

Ok, this is a bit of a hard one to explain, but here goes:
I have a star cloth that is basically 4 dimmers (4 groups of led's) and a control dimmer.
I never use the control dimmer, so have a cue running permanently to keep this channel at 100%.
The other 4 dimmers I generally have a nice twinkle effect (fader 1) or static on (fader 2).
I also have a strobe type effect (fader 3) which I built from an intensity shape over the 4 channels.
When I have these "cues" assigned to faders, even when I have BOTH the static AND twinkle faders UP at 100%, when I then bring the strobe effect up, they strobe as desired, and returning the strobe fader back down brings the starcloth back to normal.
The same desired action happens when I assign the strobe cue to an executor button.
HOWEVER, even though the executor button does the job, it LATCHES. So I go into playback options, and change the key profile to "Flash"... But now it doesn't have the same effect.
For some reason, when in flash mode, it only produces the strobe effect when the twinkle and static faders are at zero.
Is there something I'm missing here? Have I perhaps set the key profile up incorrectly?
