USB power?

Postby iadwm » 08 Jan 2006, 17:41

We all know the USB (Pearl2004) socket isn't implemented from a software point of view, but is it powered? Is power even supplied on a device port? I don't want to order my USB lava lamp if it isn't.

Cheers,

Andy

The USB port on the pearl is a device port and not a host port. In the USB standard only host ports provide power. You will also notice that when trying to plug in your USB lava lamp the socket is the wrong shape.

I suggest that maybe you could plug the Lava lamp into the 4 way strip that the desk is powered from.

Thanks Ollie, helpful as always....

So I will need to cut of the usb plug and put on a 13A plug?
(at least it will be fused  )

(for those completely lacking in common sense, this is a joke and not to be taken seriously)

I sore a USB cup warmer in PC World the other day. Would be helpful for those long programming sessions! A USB beer tap would be better though!

Yes, there are all kinds of dinky devices, NONE of which we can use with our Pearls!

Unless, I got a powered hub - then I could cover my B faders with all sorts of crap....lights, fan, keyboard vacuum cleaner....cup warmer...

You could run an AC line with your snake and hook it up to a dimmer channel. That way you could regulate the heat and lumens of your lava lamp.

The USB powered hub was and is much easier!

Although from the amount of 'rude' comments I get from Sound, I wonder if it's worth it....

It is.
