Pearl encoder

Postby mdudleyjames » 27 Nov 2005, 14:15

After many years my analogue encoders on my old Pearl finally gave up the ghost. Avolites came to my rescue and sent me the new optical encoders (at a cost). All worked fine for a couple of hours then the tilt encoder would only count up to 100% which ever way you rotate the pot. Any ideas?

This would happen if either the clk or data wire from the encoder was bad connection. The most likely cause is a detached wire inside the sleeving on the encoder connections (try giving them a slight pull). Alternatively, it may be a bad connection at the connector (MASCON) end. Try pushing the cables into the pins with a small flat blade screwdriver.

Thanks for your reply, one quick trick i used was to turn the connector 180 deg. (the common of the 5 pin is pin 3) and the fault stayed with the encoder. all the wiring was good so our dear friends at avolites sent me a new encoder. all now works correctly. thanks again
