Virtual Dimmers

Postby Tulikoura » 09 Sep 2015, 19:02

Hi! How can I make virtual dimmers for fixtures that do not have that in the dmx protocol or the library? E.g. Stairville Stage TriLED bundle. I can change the individual cell colors but not intensity. So chases are out of the question. This is mentioned in the manual but not much explained. I know some other consoles offer this feature.

Essentially, a virtual dimmer is created like this:
- add a dimmer attribute, having no resolution, and no dmx channel
- in the colour channels, select the new dimmer attribute as virtual control

I guess the problem in your case is that the fixture already supports a 'real' dimmer channel, which would interfere with a virtual dimmer. You might try patching the 'cells' as individual fixtures (generic RGB), and the global control channels (dimmer, shutter, control) as dimmer channels or ltp somewhere else.

As Sebastian says the reason the factory personality doesn't have this is because it has a real master dimmer which causes issues if we want the fixture to light when the master fixture is located. It is possible to overcome but with potential compromises. If you submit a request via the form on the personality library website I will update it.

Thank you!

I need to check these out and see if a library update would be better.

Hadn't thought about the generic RGB option. Got to try that too. Only thought of individual generic dimmer channels, which lead to loosing a whole bunch of features.
