Tilt saw with shutter, any ideas?

I have a Pearl 2008 and am trying to create a tilt saw effect that closes the shutter on the downward stroke, so my eventual effect is a row of movers where the odds move up with open shutter, close shutter at end of stroke and return to home position whilst the evens are sweeping up with shutters open, repeat, repeat.....
Shapes only work on one attribute so they're out, I've been trying a chase but the problem is to get a slow smooth movement I have the chase set to full fade but then the shutter opens and closes halfway through the movement cycle, or using dimmer instead I get the intensity fading through the movement cycle, I want beam on, sweep up smoothly, beam off, sweep down, all this with no pauses....... any ideas?
Cheers
