Ad Hoc PC

Postby ciuf » 19 Aug 2014, 10:59

Hi guys,
Thinking of changing the machine that drives my titan mobile,
any of you have experience with intel's NUC?? or maybe asus vivopc??
They look cheap and small...(ideal)...did anybody create a system with a miniitx pc?

Btw do you recommend a lighter version of windows? maybe a modded one? will adding a shell to the OS change my performance? (ex BBLEAN)

Ciao!

I don't have any direct experience but personally I would not be comfortable running Titan on Atom processors or similar. Ideally I would look for something that has an i5.

That doesn't necessarily rule out small/fanless machines. I bought one of these last year and I can't speak highly enough of it. Straight out of the box it's faster than the huge overclocked i5 tower PC I built. In contrast I have an Atom based fanless machine which I use as a server and it clearly struggles with all applications. The only thing to consider is it's heavier and larger than I expected.

running Titan Mobile (and Titan One) on an Intel NUC DC-3217-IYE (i3 cpu).
Works great !
But I think you should use the system as a dedicated Titan system, don't use it for other tasks.
Take care when you choose your memory for the NUC system.
I've had some issues with 'cheap' modules.
After buying 'more expensive' modules with the same specs, all problems were gone.
