New Licensing set up Questions.....

Postby clublights » 26 Feb 2014, 16:52

With the new licensing in 7.3 are the TitanOne/ Mobile linked to one computer only ?

IS it posable register multiple computers per device?

I generally only use them with one computer but have a second as a back up if need be will I be able to switch between them at will ?

The way i thought it worked was, if you copy the full license token onto a usb stick when and if you use your TM or Titan One on another computer you can import your token from the usb stick and it will work.

Please someone correct me if im wrong...?

Hi

Clublights is correct - the license is valid per computer/Avo-hardware-combination. Hence, you would need several licenses - which shouldn't be a problem.

Why make it all that difficult??? I understand you have to do something against software piracy, but this new method makes it just really annoying for legit users!
The great thing about the mobile was: plug it in a computer and it works. Why going through all that trouble of uploading photos every time? Aren't there any better solutions like a hardware dongle? Like e.g. in Wysigwyg: You just plug the dongle in a random computer and the software just works...

Tho this whole picture of the mobile/TitanOne thing is kind of a super pain, I personally HATE dongles.

What happens if you lose it?
What happens if it dies ?

you could have a show ruined.

It eats up a USB port which is annoying.

After having to go thru and request for 2 computers on 2 devices ( 1 Mobile, 1 Titan One- 1 Main Comp, 1 Backup Comp)

This is kind of a huge pain in the ass

Are we going to have to do this with every software update?

I hope that is a no

IT would be funny if it was not so annoying....

Approved my back up ( non touch screen.. only used for back up) computer on both Mobile and T1...

But not my main ( touch screen bought just for titan nothing else installed on it ) computer .. using the exact same pictures.. forms filled out the same .. using the token from the main computer.. gets rejected ?

I hope I'm an exception and this won't happen often .

Licensing Details

Firstly we only decided on licensing after considerable thought and whilst we agree it is a small nuisance, the alternative is far worse. There are many copy consoles which are inferior in quality, support or the ability to upgrade. Owners of these frequently contact Avolites for help or might even use this forum to seek help from genuine owners! Some estimate there are as many as 4 copies for every original console.

The licensing system is designed to prevent installation of software into illegal consoles, whilst making it as easy and beneficial possible for genuine owners.

We have made the licensing system flexible by:

1 Immediate issue of a temporary 14 day license through our website, this can be done over the phone to anyone who has internet access, using a smart phone, laptop or PC.

2 Issuing of a full license using a PC connected to the internet. The full license will be emailed to you within 4 working days (often much quicker) and a temporary licence will be issued immediately.

Titan Mobile and TitanOne products can be licensed for use on several computers by simply applying for more than one license.

Versions of Titan software are paid for by continued sales of consoles so it is in the interests of every genuine owner to support the licensing program.

If you have any more questions please feel free to PM me.

Richard got me all sorted out !

Thanks!!

Up and running both the Mobile and the T1 on both machines :D

I do understand Avo's need to do this especially if the 4 to 1 ratio is true! If Avo sold 4 times as many consoles in theory prices for the genuine boards could come down making all of us end users happier !

One thing tho

seeing as we have all this now does the license agreement splash screen still have to be part of the T1 start up ? seems kinda redundant now

I want to say that's it is not a massive pain. Anyone who has ever spent hours trawling MA forums to find a personality file has it far harder!! I think the licensing thing is a good thing if it prevents piracy. We all want the Titan software to continue developing and that can only happen with genuine support and console purchases not with flaky copies from the Far East or wherever. :D

I have a TM, 3 Titan One along with older T.Touch
After reading the pros and cons and balanced this against the user (my) requirements think that it is almost impossible for me to use the latest version for the following reasons.

1/ when new versions are released there are always bugs, this is a fact with all new software as every variable is impossible to test and only comes to light in use by the use over time. Ver 7.1 -7.2 proves this the case
2/ To force users to upgrade by time limited software removes my safe guard of using proven 'old' versions that perform as expected even with known bugs.

If I have to change versions during a run of shows which may introduce unknown bugs to shows already programmed and may potentially compromise its reliability - its not going to happen.
Add to this the ticking licence clock that you could just forget about and it all spells disaster to me.
I for one must have the option to upgrade at a time when I feel the software is ready and reliable to use and not because the manufacturer dictates that you have to because its got the latest bells and whistles or that it corrects the bugs xyz - but at what cost to reliability.

Hi,
We have, like SLS, a couple of T1 in Stock, and use these on various pc's. I understand that each dongle has to be paired with each pc, but can each pc be paired to multiple dongles( not simultaniously ofcourse)? Eg. Having multiple T1 atf files associated?

Sincerely

Hi All,
V 7.3 I believe will still expire at a given date or is it good for ever more ?
I also understand that fixture profiles are also going to be subject to similar Licence conditions and that unlicensed fixtures will be restricted in number.
Just one final point, we hire out our Titan Ones and Mobile out for use in amateur productions to clients that have their own laptop using the simulator to pre program and patch before hand we can no longer do this.
The licence require that you have internet connection available and the hardware is registered to the owner.
What happens when its hired out to clients, internet is not available and the PC fails.
The one great thing with Titan software was that you can use it with any PC as long as you had the Avo hardware, if your PC/laptop went wrong you could install the software to any available PC and your running again and this is why I invested in it but is now not the case. Avolites has changed this to the point were I feel that they have lost the whole point of having a PC based Lighting control surface flexibility!

I'm unable to find the license countdown timer in 7.3 so I assume it has been removed. ( anyone got 7.2 installed and can remind me where it was I'll look again but I can't find it anywhere in the system menu or user settings when connected to my mobile)

I asked ( in a PM) Richard Salzedo who is a Managing Director ( from above) to rejoin this conversation to give the official Avo answers to these questions.

I agree this is a pain in the behind over all but with an estimated 4 to 1 counterfeit to real Titan Desk ratio Avo HAS to do something to protect their intellectual property.

Besides if half those counterfeits become real sales we.... the end users.... will likely see benefits. it's not hard to theorize that if they can double sales the cost of desks will come down .. and/or they can hire more programmers to add features and squash bugs at a faster rate in the software.

On the flip side of the coin if Avo does nothing they could go under and leave no more software updates and no new hardware forcing all of us to go to a different platform and I personally like that option even less then having to deal with the V7.3 Set up.
