RDM discover returns no results

Postby emoreth » 21 Feb 2014, 22:26

I have a Pearl Expert with Titan 7.0, and I currently have 8 moving lights in my rig that are RDM-compatible. I've tried an RDM discover command a couple of times, and it can't seem to find any of the fixtures. I know that most existing splitters and some other hardware can block RDM, so we're definitely investigating that possibility, but I'm also wondering if there's anything in the console that might cause this issue (trying to cover all my bases). We are using DMX straight out of the board, and we're having the issue in 2 different universes.

Not speaking officially for Avolites, but it's doubtful that it will ever be supported on some of the older hardware, i.e. Pearl Expert, since the DMX drivers in those pre-date RDM - so it's a hardware limitation, not a software one. I would hope that they are building new consoles (Quartz, Arena, TT2, etc) with a newer DMX chipset that supports RDM, even if it's not yet enabled in the software.

On an aside, I've found most consoles' RDM implementation to be somewhat limited (I'm looking at you, GrandMA...) - but having one of these XMT-350 boxes from Swisson has saved me from bringing a rig in a number of times. It's a very capable little RDM box, and a great DMX tester too!
