Hi all

I am using a Titan pear expert on v5 software

I wondered if I could pick your Brains as I am having problems putting together the look I am after...

I have a cue list that I want to start out with a cue of random flashes of fixtures across the stage in anticipation of a the coming event. I've seen in many times but struggling to program it myself.

Any ideas on how I would go about this?

I have a mixture of mac 500 / 600 / led cans /

You could program a chase set to random and have the cuelist autoload the chase playback.

I must be being daft but I haven't read or seen a 'rAndom' option in programmer. I am going to have a bash at programming it to look random.
I.e a flash here and their in random places across the stage for split second.

Would you do this as a chase list? Is that the correct method?
Also what's easiest way to get a fixture to flash for a split second?

You can set a chase to random using the key to the right of forward/next on the expert. IIRC the laminate for this key is 'review'. When connected to chases the four keys give you quick access to backwards/forwards/random/bounce. I'm not at a console right now but I'm fairly sure you can also toggle chase direction using softkeys in [Playback Options].

One example of such a chase would be to program intensity at full for each fixture in the order they appear, set xfade to 0% and direction to random. If you sometimes want there to be no fixtures on then program some empty steps. The more empty steps the more likely it is to hit one. However, if you want very brief flashes then you are going to be limited by the fixture's capabilities and, ultimately, by the DMX protocol itself. In this case I might look at using a fixture's random strobe function if it has one, eliminating the need for a chase. Or, alternatively, a chase of strobe or shutter open/closed. This will all depend on what the fixture does and how the functions behave. Just experiment and see.
