Titan Mobile FREEZE

Postby Orlando_RXF » 27 Dec 2012, 13:13

Hi

It has happen to me already twice... the second time it happened was during programing a show, and it was not a problem, but the first it happened, was just 5 minutes before the show started, with about 300 people in the room and I had to restart the sofware, and the show worked fine for the 4 hours after the restart.
It just freezes... the console and the software... not the laptop... I never restart the laptop... just the sofware.
This is very bad as you can imagine
Can anybody help me?
I have the 6.1 version instaled.

Thanks

I had the same problem a couple of times during one gig. It always happened while I was busking with the pallettes.
One of our guesses was that it was the Artnet that made the software crash. Didn't happen the gig after when we didn't have the Artnet Node

Hi

Tks for the reply, but in my case I've never used the artnet node!

Hi,

The mobile console also freeze several times with me, but just the console, the software continous working well and sending DMX and I recal the virtual pad and finished the show like that.

The cause I assume was that I plug the two USB side by side. After I connect one in itch side of the laptop never more freezed
I think that in same laptops when you have 2 USB side by side they share the same power

Hi again

This happened to me once with 2 usb cables (connected side by side) and the last time with just 1 usb cable because I read somewhere that is no longer need to use the 2 cables, and I tested but it still freezed.

Orlando

I'm quite worried about this and feel no confidence...

@Orlando:

I know this will be an annoying question but it is important to ask - does the laptop have a clean operating system with nothing else installed except Titan?

Hi

The laptop is running Windows 7; 64 Bits, 4 GB Memory from Asus.
It's not only used with the Titan Software, but everytime I'm working with the Titan Software, I restart the Laptop, the internet is disabled and only the Avolites software is running... :?
As I told before, I never had to restart the laptop... only the software, and both times it happened, it kept working fine for about 5/6 hours show... last time, after the freeze and software restart, it kept working for about 12 hours (setting up and the show itself) with no problem...

Tks

I understand but with other software installed it is going to very difficult, if not impossible, to identify what the problem might be. It could be something running in the background, like antivirus or similar, that is causing the freeze. This is why it is recommended that nothing else is installed.

I think it would be sensible to try and get Titan running on a clean machine (or drive/partition) that never gets used for anything else. I can't promise this will solve the problem but if not it would be a good start and generally good practice.

Hi again

I can do that, but to tell the truth, it doesn't give me much confidence, because I've never had any issues with this laptop and everything always went smoothly.
From what you've just told, is it enought to create another user in my laptop, just to work with this, with the antivirus and firewall turned off?
Because if its necessary to have another laptop just to work with this, it isn't a soluttion, because we bought this console because of being flexible and to work with my own laptop... if I have to get another laptop JUST to work with Titan Mobile, it's not worth buying it... its better to buy some other kind of console that doesn't need a connection to a laptop... can you understand what I'm trying to say?
I am a bit desperate with this... sorry for all this!

You can divert the hard disk of the laptop in 2 partitions, and install Windows on both of them.
You use the windows on the first partition for everyday work and the windows on the second one only for running the AVO software.
This way you have a "clean" computer for running the show and a "dirty" one for everyday usage.

Exactly. A dual-boot system is the way I would do it. It doesn't cost any extra (other than maybe another copy of windows) and you still only have to carry one laptop. You don't need a very big partition for the Titan part and you can always access both partitions at any time should you need.

I understand what you are saying about confidence and that is why I think it is sensible to have a clean install. It is not about whether there is anything wrong with the laptop or any of the other software. It is about making sure there are no conflicts. The same is true of any critical computer-based systems, including the other Titan consoles.

Yes it is annoying to have to do this and will take some time. And, yes, it means you have to reboot to access your other laptop applications. But you have already said how important this application is and that is why it is worth the effort.

Hi

Thanks for all the advices.
I will certainly do exactly what you told me to... I just want to solve the problem the best way possible.
Thanks once more.
I will update this post as soon as I do it and test it.

I am having the same problem - very embarrassing when it happens mid show!

It has happened several times to me, it's always busking the palettes that triggers it - it freezes and the console does not respond to any input. Rest of laptop continues to function normally.

It continues to send DMX and carries on what it was doing before it froze, so far the only way I've found to remedy it is to restart the software. This will obviously cause the desk to blackout as it reloads.

I have a feeling it is some kind of USB issue.

I have replicated this issue on a clean boot laptop with no anti-virus etc. Windows 7 x64.

I will try plugging USB leads into two separate buses and see if I can replicate it that way.

<edit> With one USB lead plugged into the USB2 bus and the other in the USB3 bus I was able to replicate the freeze by busking the palettes again </edit>

Not good, obviously.

Two thoughts -

1) Are you using two Usb cables? As I understand you should now only require one. Also check panel firmware is up-to-date.

2) When you say 'busking palettes' are you using a touch screen?

Hi, I have tried with combinations of one or two USB cables and can reproduce the freeze easily.

I'm not using a touch screen, rather I'm using the mouse or touchpad to click the palettes. I am able to reproduce the freeze without the mouse plugged in, so that can be eliminated.

I am currently running v6.0 - I will perform an update to 6.1 and see if I can reproduce once that is applied.

In the meantime, I just crashed it again now and managed to get a crash dump out of it. If it's any use to you:

I can email d4.dmp if you give me the best address
