Control System Solution

Postby CSmithDesign » 20 Dec 2012, 20:45

For an installation that I update every year, it's necessary that the sound and lights be pre-synced and all the operator has to do is press the "go" button on the song and the light show goes with completely synced. I currently use an older PC based controller that does a great job of this (but it's hell to program) and I want to change it to the Titan software.

I know that this can be done with timecode, but that is not an option here, their audio setup does not permit it. How can I overcome this with Titan? I'm looking at using the TitanOne for this, it would be a perfect application for it. Has anyone thought of any solutions for situations like this?

Thanks in advance

How is the existing system synced to the audio?

I used the old Elation Compu Live software because it had an add-on program called "Easy Show" where you could trigger the MP3 and lighting cues on the same timeline, ensuring that they always stayed together. It was excellent for this (but hell to program). On the venue's end, it means that the audio is now coming from the lighting computer as well, but that is fine in this case; they mix several audio sources into their main output.

If there's an audio program that could work with the Titan software somehow? Thanks for looking into this.

how about winamp?

- you can use it as clock source for cuelists
- also, it can work the other way around: you can control winamp from the console. Olie wrote a plugin for winamp, which makes it listen to the console. In my first tests, the personality seems to be a little awkward, or the plugin was written for an older version. However, you can select tracks, start/stop/pause, and work the eq - everything from within Titan. Probably one of my next projects to dig into :D

Would one of these solutions work for you?

The Winamp solution sounds awesome! I think controlling it from the console would probably be ideal as I'm not sure how detailed Winamp's clock would be (could it get down to the hundredth of a second detail, etc).

What version should I look into?
