Hello,
Having a few problems getting the PE to "take" the new BIOS after following the procedure detailed in 4.2 of the update.pdf.

Tried 3 different brands of USB's - Intergral, PNY, Toshiba - but the desk does not seem to recognize any of the sticks despite selecting "boot from USB stick" - Section 15 of the update.pdf - "Things that can go wrong"

Any pointers ?

I have found that it is sometimes necessary to use RMPrep to make the sticks bootable even when using Win7.

If you don't already have it, click here and then select 'here' to download. Extract the zip, install and run.

Change the filesystem to FAT32 and select 'boot as HDD'. Leave the other options as default. Make sure stick is plugged in, select it from the drop-down options at the top and select the [prepare] button at the bottom. Click yes to the warning prompts and the process should complete.

Now run the BIOS installer again. When it has completed use 'safely remove hardware' on the stick before unplugging it.

Try again in the console. If it's still not working then you could try setting all boot devices to 'disabled' apart from 'other'.


This method can also be used as a solution to making the v6 recovery bootable should anyone have any problems.

Ran the BIOS installer again. The CMD window pops up and says select destination drive - which is H ( Usb stick ) however nothing appears to go to this drive.

A search on this drive with file explorer shows nothing
Am I missing something obvious ?

I download the BIOS zip. Extract to a folder on my desktop. Open the folder and double-click 'create.bat'. Where my Usb stick is in drive F I get the following:



Files are visible on the stick when I look in Explorer. I do have show hidden and system files enabled although I can't say if this is relevant at the moment.

I've done exacly as you have. H is my USB drive.
Although when entered it happens in a blink of an eye
Using windows explorer it say that the folder is empty.

I've run RMprep on the stick again,and re ran the bios installer again.
Still not able to get anything

Did try again in the console with the setting of all boot devices to 'disabled' apart from 'other', but it did not "take"

I'm struggling to think what the problem could be. I will try and get someone else to look into this.

When preparing/installing the stick, did you do so by just double-clicking? Try right-click, 'run as Administrator'. It's worth a try.

I had a few trouble for the same step while upgrading mine yesterday

The problem is that I couldn't see the error message since the window disapeared so quickly.

To see them I've simply "printscreened" them


I got one saying my usb stick was too big (I only had a sixteen Giga) and when I tried later with a 2 Go, everything went well.
I don't know if you're having the same troubles but those error messages are really hard to see.

Icke - I've tried that and no luck - nothing appears to go to the stick. The formatting says that the stick has been done correctly

djon - had exactly what you say in your message. How did you manage to "printscreened" them ?

Using Intergral 4Gb stick - bought a pair new especially for this task

Pointers anyone ?. I tried PNY 2Gb, Toshiba 256Mb as well

Just tried a HP USB Flash v195b and still no joy
Can't seem to get the BIOS to write to the usb.

Running Acer Aspire Series Win 7 64 bit SP1 installed, everything else appear to be up to date

It would seem that there is a newer version of the BIOS updater software on the update page of the avo website.
Downloaded it and managed to create a BIOS stick in one go !
Currently in the process of installing new bios and V6 update!
All seems to be going well.

I have not been able to create the BIOS update stick, I keep getting a disk to big error. the smallest drive I have been able to get localy is 8 Gig. Have tried several different manufactures. I have tried RMPrep and same thing.

I've found the BIOS Updater software on the Avo website cured all the previous problems mentioned in this post.

Created BIOS stick - Intergral 4gb and updated sucessfully

I found someone who had a 2Gig drive that they let me use and was able to create the BIOS updater from that.
